Fall/Spring/Summer 2010-2011 GPA is 3.1, Once I retake a failed class in Fall 2011...

I have taken 33 units up to this point and have finished most of my IGETC classes, I currently have a GPA of a 3.1 due to a failed 4 unit class, which I recieved a D in (moral of the story, never take a lab online) I am retaking the class in Fall 2011 and with an A (hopefully) my GPA will be bumped up to a 3.5 (plus any other classes that I hopefully take will also raise it.)

In Fall 2011 I am taking an additional 18 units and Spring I am (hopefully) taking 14-16 more which will have me transfering with 65+ units for the Fall of 2012.

I am REALLY worried about applying with this D on my record, what are my odds of getting into a school since they see that I will be re-taking it and (hopefully) passing with an A? Its unfortunate that my first transfer GPA will show as a 3.1, when in reality it will be a 3.5 or higher if not for this one blemish on my record.

My #1 and #2 schools would be UCSD and UCI, what are my chances of getting in? Would I be better off waiting and applying for the winter/spring terms of 2012/2013?

Also, I will be transfering as a Psych Major

Please give me advice! Thanks in advance.

If your GPA is above a 3.5 with the course repeated, and you’ll have IGETC completed by the end of Spring 2012, then you’re a shoo-in for UCSD via TAG. UCI, I’m not sure.

P.S. I know someone who had 2 Fs worth of repeated courses, who got into UCLA. People have gotten into schools like Cal with terrible past records that they made up for by repeating the old coursework/academic renewal. Don’t sweat it. Just put in your best effort and make sure you do well in the class this time around.

even if I havent gotten it re-taken by the time that i’m applying in november? I will have the class on my transcript, but I wont have the new grade until the end of December after i’ve already turned in my application.

Basically, that’s just how it is. There’s nothing you can do at this point but retake it and hope for the best. Write about it in the additional grade info section of the application.

UCM is the only school that sometimes accepts non-Fall applications and I believe they limit the majors they accept them from.
