Fallen Chemist

So sorry! He was such a lovely, balanced and substantive figure on CC. Every university should be so lucky here. And so happy for prospective students who were able to interact with him all these years.

My condolences to his family. He was a valued member of the community here and a true ambassador for Tulane.

FC – we miss you so much already!!

You came to my aid five years ago when my kid (Class of 2016) first started considering Tulane. And you continued that help all the way through to just the other day for my younger kid (who has a Tulane application pending as I write).

Thanks so much. Well done. RIP. And…

ROLL WAVE!!!

This is so sad. He was such a great help and so generous with his time when my daughter was applying to Tulane.

Oh my! so sad. So sorry to hear this. Had he been ill?

Fallen Chemist was immensely helpful to me when I found CC and was looking for any help I could find for my son. I actually got in touch with him the first time because of his user name since my son at the time was wrestling with the choice of what to major in and this user name intrigued me so I sent him a PM and that was the beginning of a long back and forth where he patiently listened to my angst trying to help my son figure out a school and a major.

Like you David he didn’t become a chemist…but he did end up with a wonderful college experience and part of that is because of you my friend.

I know how much he loved his children and how proud he was of them-I offer them and his family my heartfelt condolences and prayers.

Thank you for posting this. I’m so sad to learn this news. I’m a Tulane alum and also live in New England. We had many positive offline chats. My condolences to his family. Our Tulane family as well.

I couldn’t help but get chocked up when reading this news this morning. So sad, so very sad. To David’s family, my sincerest condolences. To those associated with Tulane, may his memory shine through in your live’s. To those who didn’t know his contributions as FallenChemist, to CC and Tulane specifically, he was a wealth of knowledge and a calming hand in a chaotic and anxious process. My God Bless you, David.

"Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he? "

I have enjoyed reading all of his detailed posts and his quick responses to children and their parents - so sad to hear this. What an incredible resource he was to all of us - and a tremendous champion for Tulane.

Jeff and CC subscribers (students, parents, alum)…given FC’s dedication to this site, and his unwavering support/advice, it would be great if there would be a way to donate money, in his name to establish a scholarship (?) or some other recognition. I am convinced there would not be a lack of support

I think that something prominent in the Tulane admission office that bears David’s name would be a fitting tribute. Jeff should have several thoughts on what the office might need, and David’s kids could also weigh in on which of these choices feels like the most apt honor for their dad.

I just emailed Jeff and asked him if/where we can send cards to the family and where we can donate in David’s honor and if some kind of tribute is being considered.

He will most definitely be missed! His selfless work touched many lives!

My deepest condolences to the entire Tulane community and to his children. I am just shocked and deeply saddened by the news. He was a wonderful ambassador for Tulane and a terrific CC moderator, and he will be greatly missed.

It is very sad. He was so helpful to both students and parents. He is a great resource on Tulane. Also he was helping folks in BS/MD program related questions. CC forum will miss him.

So sad to hear this news. He was so helpful last year, and I got a lot of great advice about both Tulane and Truman State from him. He was a wonderful representative of the best of CC.

I just saw this today, could not feel sadder. What a loss. My heart goes out to FC’s family.

I was at Tulane this weekend visiting my son and stopped in at Admissions to speak to Jeff Schiffman about FC. The family was sent a link to this thread and is aware of all of our condolences and appreciation of David. There are also many condolences and tributes on the Tulane Parents Facebook page. We discussed a possible tribute or scholarship in David’s honor. Jeff will update us when there is a plan in place and let us know how we can help.

Also please let us know if there is an official obituary - my searches so far have not revealed one! He will be missed.

Hi. I just got in to Tulane today, and I don’t think that I would even have dared to apply if it weren’t for Fallen Chemist. I loved the school but did not have faith in myself.

He was such a wonderful person to have spent so many hours mentoring other people’s kids. I never knew him really, but I missed him on this special day.

To his family, I am so sorry for your loss.
