***February 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

@brant9297 Same here. But, @fairagoura’s story seems to bring some hope

thanks @fairagoura

I also checked around 10am CA time this morning and my scores were posted. I guess missed composite 35 by one question.

@hungrypanda Curves were about what she expected. She felt great about English (36), thought she missed 1or 2 in reading (34), felt good about science except for a few questions (33) and thought math went well, but she tends to make silly mistakes (30). One more point would have been a 34, but oh well. She has a 34 superscore. She is a good writer, so I’m not surprised by the 30, although was a bit worried reading the stories posted by others.

@Goatboy76 i also got a composite of 30. but my science was so low, 23! but i got two 34s on other sections. crazy how one section can kill you…

@Gunkz123 what’s the hand system? and how do you restore it?

@allima i meant rescore, that was a typo. Basically you pay 50 dollars for them to hand score the multiple choice sections and if they find an error they will fix your score and give you a refund. Your score will never go down. For more information google “prep scholar act rescore”. Let me know if you think your going to do it.

@allima do you remember what form you got? And how did you feel about science? I’m considering it since I thought science was one of the easier sections but got a 25.

I had 72f and I thought science was easier but got a 28. I wonder what’s up with science this time. @Gunkz123

@realtwinkie I looked back into my official red ACT book and looked for the harshest science curve. On one of the tests -1 was a 34. So I think this time the science curve was very harsh and only like 8 wrong dropped down to around a 24-25.

Maybe but I don’t understand why this time it was so harsh. It doesn’t seem like people did way better than usual

@realtwinkie That’s why the curve is harsh - the science was easier so if you make a few mistakes, they really penalize you. But if you don’t, you score really well.

Has anyone been able to figure out what the math curve is? How many wrong for a 35, 34, 33, etc…

hey guys this was my first act and I was aiming for a 34 or 35 composite. I fell short and got a 33 with subscores of :
C:33
E:35
M:35
R:33
S:27
Writing:35

As you can see all my sections were pretty strong except for science and was wondering if I will gain a considerable advantage with a higher composite score. Thanks

How have you done on science practice tests @javalemcgee23 ?

@suzyQ7 honestly very varied from 25 to 34 haha

So here’s my thought @javalemcgee23 - I wouldn’t retake it now (you are a junior right?)… I would wait until the fall and decide then. If your college list includes colleges that don’t superscore or require ALL test, then don’t bother retaking. If your top choice schools all do superscore, or allow you to send in the one ACT sitting or another, then it may be worth it to prep hard for Science and retake for a 34 superscored composite. For now, focus on grades and ECs and play it by ear for the October sitting.

this sucks my status is still registered and people already have their writing scores…

This was my DD first ACT and we are thrilled!

Her tutor says it takes 12 to 13 practice tests in science to hit your stride.
