Average should total to around 150-250 if you buy online.

If you buy from bookstore, 250-350 from bookstore

and @ mexicandelight, have you considered all other options before coming to a UC as an OOS and taking out almost $30,000 in loans just for your first year?

xkrnbebe, I don’t know why you are so worked up in getting rid of their estimates for your living expenses and such. It’s just an estimate to give you some extra money for loans if you need it, and if you don’t think you’ll need that much money since you’ll probably be mooching off your family (haha) then you don’t have to accept it. Hope that helps.

It can actually work out better for you if financial aid determines your cost of attendance higher than it actually would be, since you would be prone to receiving more financial aid.

It doesn’t mean that your ACTUAL cost is higher though.

Another question! UCI Health Insurance and fees are part of the direct fees to attend, which is around 14,000. I have health insurance and plan on waiving… if they waive me from paying the insurance fee, would they take back some of the fin aid money they awarded me? How much is the health insurance?

You can find the fees on the USHIP brochures on their site. I took a quick look and I saw $227.00 for students per quarter. Yes, if you waive out of the plan you don’t have to pay for it.

i still didnt receive an award yet. i only get this. anyone know why?

"Your file is complete and we are expecting to begin awarding financial aid in April. You will receive notification from us once your award information is available. "

College of Attendance: UNIV OF CA - IRVINE
Award Status: Cal Grant A - Qualified - Not Awarded
Cal Grant B - Awarded - On Hold
Cal Grant C - Not Awarded

According to UCI Financial Aid office, I’m awarded Cal Grant A, but the info above says otherwise…

*I just checked my UCI fin aid award list again and my Cal Grant A is still unconfirmed… anyone else in the same boat?

If I do decide to change my Cal Grant A to B, would my UCI Grant compensate for the adjustment? Or would I have to pay the difference for the switch?

Hey guys, I have a few problems that have come up regarding my financial aid.

First off, when I go to check my aid status at the UCI financial aid website, it says that they have received my FAFSA, but they still need a “NSLDS Mismatch Clearance”. Does anyone know what that is, and where I can find it. I’ve made a call to the number provided on the same page, but I was put through voicemail (I left one, hopefully they actually check it!).

Second, when I go to check my Cal Grant financial aid, it says I’ve been accepted into Cal Grant A and that I will be getting $10k, yay! But the problem is, is that it says that my school of attendance is UCLA! HUH!? I didn’t even get admitted to UCLA, and I haven’t even filed my SLR, is this supposed to happen? Will it change once I file my SLR?

No you change it yourself. In the cal grant page there should be something that says School change. Click on the tap and then change your school.

I just called UCI so for those who got cal grant A but their CAR said cal grant b, you guys are getting cal grant A. UCI can switch students from Cal grant b to cal grant a so they believe Cal grant a is better for you in the long run.

FAFSA CORRECTIONS: in MyAid is still has my old EFC. There was a big miscalculation in the original numbers and my new EFC is much lower…would it update eventually or sould I call them? I called once and asked about something else and they were really rude…
