I've done this whole college application + fin aid process by myself as a student, and I have to say that I've come to realize that decisions by themselves are actually very unexciting. For my schools that sent fin aid info separate from decisions, the real suspenseful moment was opening the fin aid package haha

I got my decision from Cornell a couple weeks ago, but the real agonizing part is waiting for the fin aid which comes today...I'm guessing a lot of the parents have also realized this as well haha

Last year someone posted an article that said that there had been a largeincrease in the number of families that were calling to have their FA reviewed. If that trend continues then schools are just going to shut down the review process unless there was some kind of serious mistake. Schools aren’t going to essentially be doing half of their FA pkgs twice.

Yes, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I called because we had a best offer, and i wanted to see if this school could approach it, although I didn’t ask the school to match anything. The school where my daughter will likely go invites appeals on its web page, but says it won’t compare to other offers. Another school asked me to send over the other offers. When a school gets to see other offers, it’s achieving a bit of industrial spying.

That school says it gathers all the appeals and devotes one day to going through it, so rather than dropping appeals, they’ll probably approach institutionalize the procedure.

I wonder if the rate of appeal tracks the economy.
