Final Decisions Background - Class of 2021

@marg928 - I don’t think they have made one, still waiting on BOCO and NYU

@rpmjsmom that’s the first I’ve heard of anyone coming off of a waitlist at any school. Would you mind sharing when and how your D was told that a spot opened up? You said “eventually” came off…but that’s quite early!

@marg928 It was @hcarts99 who came off waiting list. @rpmjsmom said no waitlists.

Congrats, @lincoln56. That crazy race with m D will forever me some of my most cherished memories. So happy for y’all.

Thanks @freddieggirl my bad. @hcarts99 message #21 is for you.

@marg928 The Guthrie callbacks were March 3-5, she was WL the 13th, accepted the 21st. It was quick-- but she already knew she didn’t want to attend and sent a quick email back saying no. Still it was nice having that acceptance eventually!

Congratulations @FourFoxes. Elon has such a beautiful campus and great program. Congratulations @hcarts99 and @lincoln56 I am an alumni so I may be biased, but Ithaca is a great school.

Thank you@ MTMom98 my D top choice so happy for her!

Thank you so much @MTMom98.

@hcarts99 you should post that on the waitlist thread so people know for next year. That’s very quick to come off a waitlist.

I have little to no experience dancing… I have no training in acting either… I did work over the summer to be able to afford weekly voice lessons which I started in September. I got to a non PA high school and sing mainly in choir. I participate in my schools musical and play each year but other than that I’m just a girl with big dreams and less experience than others…

Final Decision: MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY!!!

I’ve learned so much from this process. I didn’t realize how inexperienced I was until I showed up at my first audition and was embarrassed at my inability to learn the dance at the dance call. When they say, these other students are the best of the best they’re not kidding… I had to take Pace off my list because of financial reasons and when I received my first 2 rejections I worried myself into quickly signing up for Rider and UArts at NY Unifieds. My mom would continually ask me what I would do if I didn’t get in anywhere, and she had the right too, but looking at where I am now I feel blessed to have options. My first choice was Rider but their debt problem scared my mom and they also didn’t give me enough financial aid. Point Park was also another close option for me. I woke from a nap to an email from Montclair. I was shocked, at the dance call I did what I could but there were so many others who were waaaaayyyy better than me. During my audition at NY Unifieds, in the middle of my ballad an ambulance was trying to make its way through the street and I guess there was traffic because It WOULD NOT STOP. I ignored it and kept singing and afterward they complemented me on being able to completely block it out but I thought that they were just trying to be nice to soften the blow of a future rejection. Anyway, I’m so excited to be going to school as a MT major!! I have a lot to catch up on but I’m so excited to learn.

Congrats @lenahcluv ! Gives me hope for next year, Montclair is my dream school and I’m currently in pretty much your exact shoes haha

Congratulations @lenahcluv It sounds like your attitude and clearly your talent will get you far. Best of luck at Montclair!

Thank you all so much!! I dont think I would have been able to do it without CC and the amazing support everyone gives!
@mtkb17 Im sure you’ll do great! Just make sure you send in your application items early! And just be yourself and you’ll be fine!!

@lenahcluv, you won’t be sorry! You will love it! Hit me up if you have any more questions.

So my D’s story ended up being pretty short. She is a musical theatre kid that also loves straight shows (in a Shakespeare show right now!). All the schools on her list had strong connections between the Acting and MT program. All the schools she chose, she would be happy as either an actor or MT.

Number one on her list was Otterbein. We live fairly close, which means it was totally off her list at first, but after working with one of the students in a local production she set up a day to shadow. After her day, she was hooked. She loved the classes, the instructors, the students, and the community feeling of the campus.

Early in the fall we heard that Otterbein would be doing some early decisions at their on campus auditions. So, hoping to save some application fee money, she prepared everything for her list of schools, but she didn’t send them in. She filmed all of her prescreens, but just saved them. She passed her Otterbein prescreen and set up her December audition and we crossed our fingers.

Meanwhile, she sent in her application and set up her Wright State audition for November. She wanted to have a chance to go through an audition early on. She also sent in her Carnegie Mellon application so she wouldn’t get closed out of audition dates. She also applied to Ohio University as an in state safety school. She was academically accepted at OU and was set to audition for their honors theatre college.

For Wright State she auditioned for both MT and Acting. She did the master class the day before and we saw some friends in No No Nanette. She felt really good about her audition and came out of the experience feeling pretty positive.

For Otterbein, she decided to audition for the BFA Acting program. She could get the in depth acting while still dancing every day and auditioning for both musicals and plays. She was feeling really good on her audition day. As we sat and listened to them talk about the program, we knew even more that this was the right fit for her.

She did the dance audition, did her monologue, and then we had to wait 4 hours for her interview. Her name was called and I waited for her for maybe 15 minutes. As she came down the stairs I could see she was crying. She walked up to me and said through tears “I got in!”

So, by December she knew what she was going to be doing. No more auditions! No more applications! No more pre screens! I was so thrilled that they saw in her what we saw in them!
