YAY @bexsky26! Welcome to the Family! CHANTS UP!
@bexsky26 Congrats to you and your son!! And on another note I’m so sorry about what happened to your husband and daughter. I’m assuming - hoping - they are both OK but that must have been awful. Glad you have this decision made and can enjoy the rest of his senior year!!
@sopranomtmom I’m so glad I didn’t witness it. I was parking the car with S and sadly I was glad it wasn’t S who had a dance call the next morning at TXST. That’s so horrible to say ! We can laugh about it now but they rolled up on the hood and everything. We decided maybe TX was too big for us :-S =)) =))
Thank you @stagedoormama !! I already loved teal because my youngest has a severe food allergy and that’s the awareness color. More reasons to wear beautiful teal! Feeling SO lucky and relieved! Thank you for your help too btw!
@bexsky26 - Just friended you on FB.
@bexsky26 My S and I are on a plane going to Coastal right now…he is so excited to see the campus and experience the classes. Congrats to your son for committing! Stay tuned for our decision!

@TNMTDAD gracias !! You have been wonderful!
WHAT DO WE WANT? FINAL DECISIONS AND STORIES. WHEN DO WE WANT EM’? When you are good and ready of course, but they are just the best ending after a long day at work.
I think I’ve read that both @phillyg007 and @DrowsyChaperone have committed to schools.
I mean … not to call anyone out (while actually calling people out) … BUT … I’VE GOT POPCORN SITTING HERE READY TO READ SOME MORE STORIES!!
:D/
@KaMaMom LOL! I didn’t even know about this thread, but yes my D has committed!!!
Here is her story, in a nutshell!
- ---- JUNIOR SUMMER ----* Attended Cincinnati Conservatory of Music's Summer Intensive. Was a great way for her to train on campus and meet other auditionees. She stayed friends with the kids she made that summer and followed their auditions this year. Also met a host of Directors from other schools, including Joe Deer of Wright State. (Did not end up auditioning for CCM though!!)
Tips:
Used her Junior summer to take summer classes and load up her course work, allowing her to have a ridiculously easy Senior year filled with nearly all electives! This allowed for a stress-free, homework-free time when we were traveling around auditioning!
Also — Load up on the APs and Honors classes if your goal is to attend a university over a conservatory! Grades don’t seem to matter as much as rigor did. And ACT scores are optional at many conservatories. (They do count for money though). If you look at their websites you’ll see that an ACT score of 27 or 28 puts you in the highest scholarship bracket and the Honors program at many conservatory style programs, including Baldwin Wallace and Texas State. So if you get a 27/28 … rejoice! There’s really no need to retake the ACT and stress out about getting it higher; as it is your AUDITION that will get you accepted into a program.
- ---- SENIOR SUMMER ----* Attended Baldwin Wallace Music Theatre Overtures. Was a wonderful experience and they put a nice audition package together for her to use at their auditions. She ended up using some of their material at her auditions for other schools. Left with more new friends, a nice boost of confidence and feeling ready to audition.
Tip: Also took more summer school classes this summer!
- ---- SENIOR FALL ----* Applied to YoungArts 2017 and was a winner in Theatre and given a nice cash prize, a medal, and a trip to their YA week in Los Angeles. Worth noting this because once you are a winner, you are a part of their "family," which included them writing letters of recommendations to each of the colleges you are applying to!!
- ---- APPLICATIONS ----* Being a taller blonde (belter, not ingenue), and unsure of what schools were looking for, she cast a wide net and originally applied to 17 schools - all were MT programs. Many were schools at Moonifieds that she didn't know much about, but turned out to be really terrific programs.
That early list was:
Univ. of Arizona
Baldwin Wallace
Cap 21/Malloy (auditioned at Moonifieds, but did not apply)
Carnegie Mellon
Oklahoma U (auditioned at Moonifieds, but did not apply)
Coastal Carolina (auditioned at Moonifieds, but did not apply)
Elon (applied, but ended up cancelling the audition)
Florida State (applied, but cancelled the audition)
Ithaca
Michigan
Pace
Penn State
Point Park (auditioned at Moonifieds, but did not apply)
Rider
Syracuse
Texas State (Was accepted based on Moonifieds audition. Did not apply or do the 2nd on campus audition.)
Wright State
- ---- EARLY AUDITIONS ----*
Attended Moonifieds the week before Thanksgiving and did about 11 auditions there. Again, many schools were ones she knew little about, but she enjoyed the audition experience. Got lots of callbacks and great feedback on her package. Highly, highly recommend using Mary Anna Dennard and attending Moonfieds. She is wonderful, and supportive, and an incredible resource!!
Auditioned for Baldwin Wallace University in November on their first available audition date and was accepted December 6th. That early decision allowed us to BREATHE (and enjoy Christmas!), and it allowed her to cut her list down dramatically to only the schools she would choose alongside/over Baldwin Wallace, since she was already accepted there.
Her final list was:
Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Ithaca, Baldwin Wallace, Penn State, Syracuse.
- ---- WAITLISTED / HOLDS / DECLINES ----* Was waitlisted to Carnegie (auditioned on campus), and Ithaca (NYC Unifieds). Got a letter in the mail where you fill out a form and put whether you wish to be kept on the waitlist. Was accepted to Michigan at this point and chose not to remain on the WL.
Was put on Priority Hold at Texas State MT.
Was released from PH after about 2 days, and offered a spot in the MT program.
- ---- ACCEPTANCES ----*
The following MT acceptances came in the spring, but were a direct result of November's Moonifieds:
Pace Univ University of Arizona Rider Univ Wright State Texas State
Was also accepted to:
Michigan (auditioned on campus)
Syracuse (NYC Unifieds)
Baldwin Wallace (on campus)
Penn State (was a live pre-screen at Moonifieds, then did final audition at NYC Unifieds)
- ---- COMMITTED ----* Received an incredible scholarship/grant package from Michigan that actually covered e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!!! Was a total shock and we are incredibly grateful! Committed to Michigan that next day. They have been nothing short of amazing and welcoming ever since!
And the coolest part is that she was accepted to nearly every school with a guy that she met at Baldwin Wallace Overtures! They became fast friends that summer, and now he and she will be going to Michigan together!!

Congratulations are definitely in order to your daughter!
Ok I was thinking of posting my D’s final decision story but hmm…I am not following that one just sayin’
I think I will wait. lol
Congratulations @DrowsyChaperone and amazing Daughter!! I have to tell you that from the start whenever you posted another acceptance, I would laugh and say to myself “That girl is going to end up at Michigan!” We visited the school in October and saw their production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” and it was fantastic…so your username always reminded me of that, lol.
@DrowsyChaperone Brava! Your girl is amazing! Congrats on your audition journey!
@DrowsyChaperone could of would of wow you must have no regrets wish I read this last year lol! Congrats and thanks for posting
I caution all not to disclose scholarship information on this board, except in the vaguest of terms. Exceptions to this rule would be academic scholarships based on a formula, like Texas State’s or Wright State’s scholarships (this GPA +this test score =these scholarship dollars). The other scholarships are discretionary based on income, talent, and the like, and programs don’t want that information shared, for obvious reasons.
I should clarify my above comment. It’s fine to disclose that you received a scholarship, whether talent or academic, or whatever, but it’s not okay to disclose amounts. Don’t say you got a half ride or a full ride, or any other amount on social media. I believe college coaches advise the same.
Thanks for sharing @DrowsyChaperone !! What a wonderful success story! I know a freshman bfa mt at Michigan, she like your D had many choices and ended up with an amazing package and chose big blue…she LOVES it there!
