Finalist Notification

Still waiting in NorCal

Just call National Merit. A formal letter was mailed to the Finalists from IL. Your school will also prepare a certificate for you.

My daughter in Northern Nevada received the Finalist certificate from her principal this morning.

Congrats to all!

Still waiting in OK. :/

Still waiting in MN… At this point, the letter will arrive first. Maybe tomorrow, since we aren’t very far from IL

We called two days ago to NMSC and found out my D is a finalist. The lady was surprised we didn’t receive a letter yet. We still haven’t received one.

There’s a disconnect somewhere.

My daughter recieved NMF notification today. I have heard that there are many universities she could attend for free. First question, is there a list somewhere? Also, They have until April to list their first choice of school through the NMF competition. Would the student have had to apply to that school and been accepted or can their first choice be a school she has not applied to? Many of the college deadlines have past and most of her aps were sent to schools that do not recognize this honor. Thanks!

I just tried calling National Merit and she said she couldn’t tell me about my status and that they sent the letters out yesterday. And my guidance counselor hasn’t received anything.
I’ll probably have to wait till Monday, knowing Florida mail. I just wish I could know for scholarship apps! Haha.

Here’s a link to a thread outlining scholarship opportunities for NMF.

In the thread referenced above by SoonerMom95, post 727 in particular (by BobWallace) provides a really good summary:

The University of Oklahoma will expedite admission for NMF.

Madaboutx, I am surprised they told you over the phone. I called last Thurs and again today; on both calls they said that we have to wait until the letter comes. Today they did say that if the letter has not arrived by 2 weeks from yesterday, I can call and then they will tell over the phone. We have not received a rejection letter yet, and the guy on the phone today said that is a good sign. He said that most of the rejection letters went out in January (although he did tell me that a few last stragglers have gone out in the past week…).

I don’t know. The woman we spoke with thought we should’ve received the letter by now. Idk what to say. We got the new girl or something. We didn’t slip anyone cash or something…

Received letter today in IL. Interesting that letter contains the student’s current first choice college.

smoore: Many of the schools that offer good National Merit packages are rolling admissions so you can still apply. And although many have a priority deadline for other scholarships, it often doesn’t apply to the National Merit packages. Several of the state schools also offer automatic admission to the Honors College regardless of when the NM Finalist applies (as long as it is before the 1st Choice deadline which in most cases is late April to May 1).

It has been my experience that some schools that offer NMF scholarships still make them available even if the student did not apply by the official scholarship deadline. We are in TX and my daughter decided to apply to A&M after the scholarship deadline had passed. She has auto admission to any TX public university based on her class rank, but she still needed to get applications submitted in time, or have no guarantee of getting into major or getting any merit aid. Was told by TAMU’s Nat Scholar recruiter that she just needed to apply, & send in required forms, and she’d still be eligible for full NMF scholarship.
I have heard the same of OU and ASU (which are both popular choices for kids from these parts).

Still waiting for the letter in Northern VA. School did not notify the kids either.

Waiting as well…our school did not notify my dau either…mail just came and no letter today

got the letter today, finalist! I’m in New Mexico, but it came to me before my school

sbourgeoisie: That’s strange. We are also in New Mexico and my D also got her letter at home today. However, she was told by her school principal last Wednesday.
