No mention by school but daughter got her letter in Indiana today! Congrats everyone!

I got my finalist letter in the mail on Saturday, and I haven’t heard from my school yet.

S’s NM Finalist letter came today. Live in Norcal. As far as the school goes - not a peep was heard.
Glad this is done.

finally received letter from NMSC in OH, school did not do anything yet.

My son got his Finalist letter in the mail today! Yay, I am so happy for him and for all of you who got it. We have not heard a word from his HS in MO yet, but I suspect we will.

Letter received here today as well!

Six for six moving to the finalist level at my D Illinois HS.

Received letter from NMSC on Monday in Dallas.

Received finalist letter in NJ in the mail on Monday. Nothing from school though

NJ - Received letter in yesterday’s mail and a letter from the principal congratulating our son on being a Finalist.

Riverrunner, we have the same rule about opening mail. Our daughter’s envelope arrived today in MA and we figured the rule did not cover holding the letter up to a west-facing window and letting the sun shine through it. My husband just caught the word “congratulations” so we know she’s in. We will, of course, confess this transgression to her when she gets home from her after school stuff.

Received finalist letter today in CT – no word from my school, though.

Finally, our S got notification from the school of his finalist standing today. The principal called him down to the office to tell him and to tell him he is the valedictorian. Big day!

ETA: I forgot to mention that the principal is having the NMF certificate framed!

S received his letter in deep south. Nothing from school - given that 30 kids are NMFs (about 10% of the graduating class), we don’t expect a big deal from the school.

Although an American citizen, I live overseas. Consequently, mail can be a real hassle. I am pretty confident that I made it to finalist standing, but is there some way for me to find out - aside from waiting for the mail to come? Should my GC have been notified via email or can I call NMSC?

my daughter got letter today.

Has anyone (or your child) already notified their colleges about advancing to Finalist status? My son"s school already sent his mid-year grades, and told him to update his colleges himself. We are struggling with the right language to use, the best balance of pride and humility. He also wants to send more that a one-liner…any advice? He was deferred from his SCEA first choice in December, hasn’t gotten any “likely letters” and is a bit stressed…so any words of wisdom would be great. Thanks!

My son scanned the NMF certificate and confirmation letter and attached both to an e-mail sent to each of the colleges to which he applied. All he wrote in his message was that he was notifying them of his NMF status and requesting that the updated information be added to his admission file. He has received a few responses, basically messages saying “got it…will add to your file”.

Our strategy is to include all updates from the past few months in a single email. I heard that late February is likely the optimal time for such an update.

In addition to NMF status, we will include: maintained Valedictorian status; Academic team competition honors; updates summer plans (hired for job).

Any other suggestions for additional updates to include?

I think my DS’11 only notified the schools that offered scholarships for NMF status. He wrote to ask them to confirm what his scholarship would be (changed to) if he named them his first choice with NMSC, and to confirm by what date they would require him to do that.

I think he figured his other schools wouldn’t care. (It may also have made it onto his midyear report, I’m not sure.)

I personally wouldn’t trouble the admissions department at a reach with an update just to tell them you made NMF, unless you have other substantive updates to add at the same time.
