Finalist Weekend + Multicultural weekend = ?

I was selected as a finalist for a scholarship at WashU. I already got plane tickets and all, but today I found out that I was also invited to the Multicultural weekend (which is also free!).

Is it possible for a finalist to be invited twice to campus, I mean, without having to pay a single cent?

WashU is definitely one of my top choices, and I would love to go there. The question is: am I allowed to go to multicultural weekend even if I am a finalist who is already going to visit? Just wanted to know if I was invited by mistake.. thanks in advance.

I think you’d have to call the admissions office. I can’t speak for WashU, but others schools have noted that students can choose one visit. This is so that they can provide more expenses-paid visits to more students, and more students can visit in the end.

If it helps, I am also a scholarship finalist but I was invited to Multicultural Wekend too. So at least you know that it wasn’t a mistake.

yeah, I’m a little skeptical about it…I’ve never heard of a college paying for what is probably a huge number of students to fly over and stay for a weekend…

bluestars, I had three colleges do that for me in the fall, and we weren’t even accepted students - just prospective students.

so there’s no catch? they just want over 4000 accepted students to come visit that weekend??

It’s not 4000. Where are you getting that number from? It’s Multicultural Weekend. Probably 500 or so.

Mulitcultural Weekend is only for minority students (at least that’s my understanding) and even then I’m not sure if all of the minorities that were accepted are invited to go.

I know that for Diversity Weekend, there were about 400 students. I bet it’ll be about the same.

I don’t think I will be going… I hope that I get the best impression of Washington University during the finalist weekend because the Multicultural weekend conflicts with my schedule. I will be be traveling to Oregon that week.

My friend, who is Jew, white, and lived in one state all his life, was invited, as well.

White people have culture too… hence “Multicultural.” I disagree that it’s only for minorities. Diversity Weekend certainly wasn’t.

applicannot: are you talking about Discovery Weekend? Because you’ve mentioned several times about a Diversity Weekend but I always thought it was Discovery.

I thought diversity and multicultural weekends were one and the same…

HeretoSucceed92

Ugh! You’re right. Every time I’ve said Diversity Weekend I’ve meant Discovery Weekend. Sorry for the confusion!

i highly doubt it was a mistake…i was offered the all-expense paid trip to Discovery Weekend, Finalist Weekend, and Multicultural weekend (and im no super genius or anything). they just received a very large endowment called the travel grant or the travel fund; something like that. it funds all these trips for prospective students.

^^ itsleazybaby,
Wow, that is awesome. Yea, WashU does have a huge endowment. They must really like you as a future student. They didn’t also fund you for the Future Leaders Week did they? Congrats! Let me know if you have any questions.
