Applied under early response and got deferred.
They said some ***** like i have something uniquely valuable and blah blah!!!
They never explicitly asked me for anything else. They just asked to send fall grades if i dint have a decision by that time.

I thought i would be accepted. But i got deferred.I really want to go to umich!!
Can any one please explain why is it so..And since i am deferred does that mean that i wont get my final decision till mid April????

You sound a little frantic there. Maybe I can help.

Your stats seem very impressive. A 2210 is above UM's 75th percentile, and you have a 4.0 UW GPA. ECs and essays don't matter that much in UM's point of view, unless it made a bad impression on the admissions committee.

However, they do care about your courseload. How many APs have you taken so far? Also, you may have been deferred if you took a signficantly harder courseload this semester than in your previous years (say, if you took 1 AP last year and 5 APs this year), because UMich would like to see how you can handle that courseload.

Another factor in your deferral may have been if you were an OOS. Admissions for OOS is much more competitive than for IOS students, because Michigan is after all a state school, so they do prefer accepting IOS students.

Last, keep in mind that deferral is not the end of the world. There are many other colleges that want bright and smart students like you. But do make sure that you have a few safeties on hand, because college admissions this year will be tough.

Good luck at any other schools you have applied to! If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Deferral applicants are not guaranteed a decision until April. However, some deferred students (and regular decision applicants who do not get offered admission) are then put on a wait list. I have heard cases where the student does not find out until the SUMMER if they are attending UMich. With your profile, however, I highly doubt you would be wait-listed. Don't fret. Michigan has 6,000 undergraduates...I'm sure you'll be one of them.

There is nothing to analyze about your deferral. These posts have already told you what you can expect.

Tess, if you haven't received a decision, it means you didn't qualify for ER. This means the latest you'll find out is April, though you'll probably receive a decision before that.
