I think the first gen college/american will help a lot, as well as "personal difficulty" with your living situation.

However, those schools are top-tier, and while you have a lot going for you, I suggest retaking the SAT's and maybe try the ACT's. Those are the only thing i really see holding you back atm. Should you raise those test scores, the "3's" would become "4's" and the "4's" would become "5's". I also recommend applying to your state school, where you have very high chances of acceptance because of residency. State schools are also good safety schools

Community service is always good, and colleges like tutoring. Who knows, the first gen american/college might be a bigger weight than I am taking it for.

I am being completely honest here, I am not trying to tear you down. If you can find time to get around to it, i'd ask you do the same for me: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/658729-chances-out-state-student-uc.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/658729-chances-out-state-student-uc.html</a></p>

Thanks..
Im a senior so too latae for mee to take the Sat's again...

I reside in PA... I hope that helps with Carnegie Mellon

Carnegie mellon doesnt qualify as a state school
He means apply to a public school for safety just in case
I really am not knowledgeable about how schools admit or deny in terms of film but i do know tht washustl for you is @3 because though you get to pick which school you want to got o i think they accept you into the entire school and your SAT is lacking for those
Otherwise everything seems good to me

Chance back
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/659332-chicka-chicka-chance-me-homies.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/659332-chicka-chicka-chance-me-homies.html</a></p>

I think that most are reaches, like others have said. However, the fact that you are first generation and have worked so hard shows a lot of tenacity and I think that colleges will like that. Your scores are the only thing that's lacking.....but perhaps they can look past that. Here, chance me back. <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/659286-chances.html#post1061894811%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/659286-chances.html#post1061894811</a> Thanks!

I will add:

Penn State doesn't have an application closing date. I strongly recommend applying there, I have. As I said earlier, your scores are the only thing holding you back. I believe some schools will look past that and see your background, and you will have a good shot. I suggest penn state because it is a great fall back option. I myself, living in Nevada, have to rely on the University of Nevada as a fallback, not as nice of a net as penn state =P

LOL... aren't those schools a bit...

How on earth do you expect to get accepted to those schools with a 1740.

First generation will help, but those SATs are really going to hurt. They're quite low for these schools and also cast your GPA into doubt.

Washington University in St Louis ( Film/Cinematography 1st choice, CPU Sci 2nd)–4
Dartmouth (CPU Sci. 1st choice, Film/Cinematography 2nd)–2

Vanderbilt ( Film/Cinematography 1st choice, CPU Sci 2nd)–4
Johns Hopkins U. (CPU Sci 1st choice)–3

Do you have some safeties? Because so far everything on your list is a reach with those SAT scores.

I guess… best luck though

You're an above average applicant, and like the posters have said, first gen does mean something, but to be completely 100% honest I think you would get rejected from every one of those schools.

I don't want to be harsh or cruel, but that's the blunt truth. If you retook your SAT's and they went up 200-300 points, then you'd have an average shot. Again, I really don't want to be mean, just realistic.

unfotunatly when it boils down grades and sat scores mean more than most of us would like them to.

Ugh. If we could just ignore those scores, then you would be golden for those schools. You have been through a lot, and have still succeeded academically through those problems while being a first gen college student. All of those factors will work wonders in your favor. It's just...those scores.
