Hello CC Forum,
I applied RD to CM and checked the "No" box for "Financial Aid." I, in the eyes of most colleges, have absolutely no demonstrated need, so I figured that checking the box would be worthless for my case. However, I've recently figured out that CM financial aid is somewhat need-based and somewhat merit-based, and I would love to get some money for college (because my family does demonstrate need in my eyes and those of my parents). Is there any way for me to go back and ask CM for aid, or is this a lost cause in my case? I read on the other forum that they negotiate financial aid for those accepted to peer institutions, and I have applied to a couple of these schools. Any advice? Thanks so much!!!

I think financial aid is negotiable. You should get in touch with the financial aid office.

Are you already accepted as a student at CMU?

Yes; was accepted RD, but is it now possible for me to retroactively change my financial aid application from No Aid Requested to Aid Requested, or is it too late?

Congrats on being accepted! But I think you could call the Financial Aid office Monday and ask about it. They may let you submit something because you were an RD applicant and they do not have to meet any aid for you.

Try to talk to someone at the financial aid office asap.

I’m flying up to PIT this Friday, so hopefully I can call Monday and maybe work it out further on Friday in person. Thanks for all of the advice!

I’m sure you can ask for aid now. The only problem will be that most if not all aid has been allocated. It is possible if you received some good aid offers from CMU peer institutions then they might take that into consideration.

^ I disagree bosssr with financial aid money being allocated.

I remember not submitting anything outside of my FAFSA until this time of year. I got all of my financial documents in end of March, and received a very nice financial aid package literally days later.

OP, just call and see what’s up.
