Financial aid confusion

I have been admitted into the university of alabama at birmingham. I got a 32 on my act with a super score of 33, and received the golden excellence scholarship which is 7500 per year up to twelve credit hours per semester. As I want to graduate in four years I am going to take over twelve credits per semester, so will I have to pay thousands of dollars extra? Also, for full tuition and fees you must have a 33 on the act, but does super score count? It said on the website that a supplemental application is required for the presidential scholarship, but the application is nowhere to be found! This college is at the top I my list now but I'm upset that because I didn't get a point higher on my act I'm gonna have to pay a few thousand dollars per year at least just for classes :/ could somebody please help me understand exactly how much I'll have to pay for classes?

(1) Yes, if you want to take more than the allotted number of credit hours per semester, you will have to pay the difference.

(2) No, superscores do NOT count. If you want the full tuition scholarship, you need to test again this month and see if you can get the score you need. (The last test date that’s accepted is December.)

(3) And, I agree, the language on the website is a bit confusing, but only the endowed scholarships require a supplemental application. The automatic (ACT/GPA) scholarships do not.

(4) As for the fees you’ll be charged, they’re listed in detail here.

I don’t know who “they” are . . . but they are not UAB. This advice is flat-out wrong!

Thanks, it looks like I’ll have to pay a little over 3000 per year for classes since I’ll probably be taking about 15 credits per semester. I find it strange that they charge per credit hour, every other college I have seen has a fixed tuition.

Many public universities and community colleges charge by the credit hour. Some have different rates for different majors as well. When you speak with the financial aid office, find out if this scholarship is only good for four years at 12 credits a semester, or if it is renewable for a fifth year if needed to complete a full degree.

It is too late to register for the December ACT paying the late fee. You can apply for standby registration but there’s no guarantee you’ll be admitted, and there are extra fees.
