Financial Aid Email?

@Jumbotron Yeah but that thread took place during the RD round, and literally 6-8 days before decisions came out, so it was pretty indicative of admission. For SCEA, it might be different.

I guess so. Only time will tell.

.

As more and more people say they got the email, I am becoming increasingly skeptical of the possibility of using the emails as any sort of admission indicator. Maybe it is a trend for people applying RD, but not REA. Maybe Princeton realized that the emails gave people a hint about their acceptance ahead of time and have now changed their system from past years? Who knows… I’ll certainly let this thread know is I somehow am accepted.

Hi Dylan, I got the exact same email yesterday!
Except with my name changed of course…
Best of luck to us all

and umm not sure if this would help but my stats are 2350 SAT, 3 800s for SAT2s and a 3.7`8 ish UW GPA !

I guess I’ll add my stats too… 35 C. On act , Sat2 bio 780 math 750 , unweighted GPA 4.0, number 3 /100 In grade,

“the University does not track aid applications until students are admitted.” http://dailyprincetonian.com/news/2005/02/application-numbers-hit-all-time-high-with-class-of-2009/

I’m not sure if it means they don’t track how many applied for aid or the actual applicants or both.

@Jumbotron The clause before your quote references how the University didn’t know HOW MANY applied for aid, so I’m gonna guess that’s what they track; the actual quantity.

I got the tax email too… This definitely seems like a regular decision trend, not an early one, unfortunately.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it means nothing at this point.

I am an international student and I did not get the tax form email (submitted the PFAA on time though). I am really nervous now but let’s see what happens. I haven’t heard about any international student getting the email so there is still hope. Also the tax year in Pakistan is different from the US so I emailed the fin aid office asking about the forms. They sent back two emails. One said that I can submit the 2014 tax form by the 15th March deadline and the other one said that I should submit my 2013 form right now and can send in the 2014 one when it is available.

I agree that there seems to be a strong correlation but my interviewer said that the deadline to send in interview materials is 1st of December and it is very unlikely that they make their decisions without even considering a part of your application (even though the interview doesn’t matter that much). I guess it might be different for Yale but a girl from our school a few years back submitted her financial aid application AFTER being admitted to Yale EA.

I am an international student from Canada and I did not receive a tax form email from Princeton. I only found out that my tax forms are missing by calling the Financial aid office today. According to the office staff, the email is only a reminder; all students with missing components in their financial aid application will eventually receive one. Not sure why some applicants receive it sooner than others.

I’m an international but I got it… I’m sure it doesn’t mean much anyways. Whateverr we have a week left! 8-|

Here is my theory: The top XX% of applications have been forwarded to committee for final discussion and selection. As a part of that forwarding process, Financial Aid is notified to be sure the forwarded files are complete. After the committee meets (maybe next week?) and decides on who is accepted (from this reduced subset), applicants are notified.

This assumes the process is one of forwarding only top candidates from one’s reading to final committee, so that much of the process is done prior to the final committee read of the FINAL FINAL finalists.

Pure conjecture. But it could be true, and may align with many of those from last year who received the email being accepted. Kind of an “academic callback”.

Looks like I’m doomed, then. I’ll just hope that EA FA emails really don’t mean anything.

i do agree with @ItsJustSchool because they wouldn’t go after applicants who haven’t turned in financial aid stuff if they are not competitive in the applicant pool. But it’s all still a mystery

@mcfrankshc‌ : what are ur stats?

It does make sense. If Princeton is sending out this email to seek for information, chances are you still being considered. It really makes no sense to ask for something they don’t need.

@RunningForLife 94/100 GPA, AP/IB not offered but took hardest courseload, rank ~ 2% (~10/600), CR 800, W 720, M 700, Math 1 760 Chem 750, Canadian public school, Asian, major EC’s are starting tech company with ~$8K revenue, android app development (5 star ratings, etc), environmental research (policies adopted by government), entrepreneurship program a few random student organization positions (president, co-chair etc), plus a bunch of hospital volunteer.
