Financial Aid - FAFSA discussion

Moving the FAFSA discussion started here out of the decision thread…http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/21092899#Comment_21092899

@Mcjc626 @JeBronLames

There are two financial aid items at my son’s MyPennState. The first one says this:

The Office of Student Aid received your 2018-19 FAFSA. We will notify you via e-mail of your financial aid eligibility as early as March or within 7-10 business days after we receive your FAFSA. We will notify you if we need to verify any of the information you submitted on the FAFSA. In the meantime, please visit the Office of Student Aid website for more information about the student aid process at Penn State.

The second one is Financial Aid Action Items. That one currently says this:

You do not currently have action items for the financial aid process. Please monitor your checklist for updates.

@tonypa thank you for clarifying!!

Thanks @tonypa. My sons says “The Office of Student Aid recommends that you submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web at www.fafsa.gov by February 15. The Office of Student Aid recommends that you import your 2016 tax information directly from the IRS to the FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.”

I know it was submitted even before October first. Something seems awry.

@H0llyw00d We did the FAFSA in October and didn’t run into any glitches with Penn State receiving it. My son has been accepted to Penn State. Don’t know where you stand in terms of a decision…maybe that affects what message you see at MyPennState.

@tonypa that could very well be the difference. My son applied in September and still has not received a decision.

@HollyW00d …my son applied mid November and also still has not heard back. His profile also shows the same message as yours even though we submitted the FAFSA in Oct…not sure whats going on. Did you call the school? Thanks

@priya2015 I haven’t called the school. I’m not sure I’ll be able to call today.

@priya2015 Spoke with Penn State… Once an offer for enrollment is sent out then the FAFSA is linked.

Does Penn State give good need-based aid? My EFC is like 30K and idk if I’ll qualify for any merit (3.75gpa, 1440sat)

dont bet on any good need-based aid from penn state

Hollyw00d…Thank you so much!

@H0llyw00d …thank you!

So sad that for a school as big as Penn state that they can’t do/give more in financial aid.
