Does anyone know when we get the fee grant for SHIP?

A week ago? Your quick statement should be updated by now. Call CARS on Tuesday to find out what’s up. Good luck.

i still haven’t received jack schitt!

i just got my cal grant today, but the amounts on my quick statement and CARS e-bills are so different, so i don’t know how much i have to pay.
don’t wanna go to the office today cuz it’s probably packed…

This is all just one more example of the terrible state of the economy in California. So many cuts are having devastating results everywhere.

The quick statement is the most up-to-date as to what you owe.

Yes, just look at the quick statement. Remember there may be a delay though. Your Cal Grant will fund and then the next day it will be reflected on your quick statement.

i went to the financial aid office yesterday and what the lady basically told me was that i was out of luck. Basically i have to wait till the California budget is passed before i can get my cal grant funds. im so mad!

Did the financial aid lady say why some students received their Cal Grants and others did not? I’m curious about that. I’m sorry about your situation. You must be so frustrated.

I called in about the extra money for SHIP. The person on the phone told me that depending on the budget this year, the extra money will either be in the form of grants or work-study and that it will be around the 5th or 6th week of school before that decision is made. I didn’t want to take the risk of getting even more work-study (I already have $4,000 as it is) instead of grants, so I waived out at the last second.

acceptme, that woman didn’t know what she was talking about. UC and CSU routinely advance Cal Grants to students. I would try calling back or dropping in again and talking to someone who knows what they’re doing. The only students that have to wait for the budget are a majority of community college students.

Just doing a Google News search for “UC Cal Grant” yields things like “Because of the budget impasse - the second longest in state history - the UC is currently fronting $189 million to pay for 53000 Cal Grant awards” and “UC and Cal State in effect are lending lower-income students the financial aid they were expecting to receive from the state’s Cal Grant program”

When I called a few weeks ago they said that they’re basically just waiting on some sort of system verification that takes several weeks, and it’s really just a matter of waiting. They told me mine should have been done by Sept. 15th, so I’ve been trying to get through to talk to someone to ask for a new idea of when it will be processed.

This is crazy. I called, they said something about a g6 form which i swear i completed, then to email the cal grant lady. I don’t think they know what’s going on. I’m really unhappy with everything berkeley so far

abutler:

I did ask the lady if the school would be fronting the funds but she said that they requested to do that twice and was ‘denied’. I had no idea what she meant by that but yeah. So you haven’t received ur cal grant funds yet? ihatethis.

I’m still waiting too. This really sucks. :(

who is “the cal grant lady”? does she have an email address? I want to talk to her

d34n: are you asking me? I just went to the financial aid office - drop in.

Any updates anyone? the state budget was passed a few days ago!

no refund as of yet. ****

takes forever for them to process material, and they always give me new instructions for the same tasks
