Has anyone received anything from Fin Aid yet?

Wern't you admitted ED? I'm surprised OSFA hasn't sent you an estimated package.

Yup I'm ED
And they haven't send anything out yet.
They originally said it should be sent out before the new year. Then they said before matriculation (whenever that's supposed to be...)

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now...

Really?
Did you get it in the mail or on the net?
Not to be intrusive or anything, but were they generous? Did they offer you anything? More/less than what you expected?

LAAAAAME! :'(
I only got a Stafford loan... :(

Kind of random on my part...but what kinda of aid (if any) is a $37k EFC going to get at GW?

You could receive merit aid.

Does GW have many merit scholarships available? In my estimation I'm a slightly above-average applicant at best, so i probably wouldn't get any. In general though, does anyone know how generous GW is with need-based aid? Do they usually cover the difference between one's EFC and the cost of GW?

Your EFC is rather high, so I doubt you will receive any need based aid other than loans, but I maybe wrong. GWU is supposed to be rather generous, actually according to US News Rankings the most generous, but I won't personally know until February.

There are two merit scholarships available, from what I am aware of, each with different requisites:

Page 8-10

If you don't receive any merit based aid upon matriculation and are able to maintain a 3.7 GPA then you will be eligible for a Presidential Scholarship, which covers half-tuition.

"Presidential Scholarship If you did not receive merit aid when you were admitted to GW but have excelled in your GW studies, you may receive the Presidential Scholarship. This award is partial tuition for students who achieve at least a 3.7 cumulative grade point average after completing 30 credit hours at GW. "

Here is the common data set if you want to peruse over it:

Thanks for all the info qwilde!

Anything, for a fellow potential colonial ;).

I finally got mine today, I'm getting around 30kish in grants and awards which is really good since I imagine my EFC is kinda high. I'm going to be in 3rd family member in college though (all at the same time) so that might have factored in, its all contingent on FAFSA but our income has actually decreased since last year so we shouldn't have any problems.

Now I'm at a more managable 20k, ive been working for a bit so i have some savings and my family can contribute some so it isn't an issue.

Thanks again qwilde. It seems that you Colonials are so gung-ho about your school, I think it's great(I have been deprived of school spirit all my life)! My friend introduced me to another one of her friends (he goes to GW) when she heard about my interest in the school and he's had so many good things to say and has been very helpful. I really have no idea why I never completed my app when I was a senior in high school, the money scared me off, but I've realized that's something which should never prevent one from at least applying.

Your welcome. I'm not actually a colonial yet; I still have a few more days until my decision- I applied EDII. Generally, though G-dub students are very proud and enthusiastic. I definitely understand the lack of school spirit (I recently graduated from a class of four in Italy). GWU's price tag initially scared me off too, but considering how great the school is and the financial aid offered, I decided to apply anyway.
