Financial Aid Without ApplyTexas

Okay, so I screwed up. I got started on the whole college thing late and didn’t know much about the deadlines or where I should apply or honors or anything. Long story short, I ended up submitting my ApplyTexas application last minute, and I didn’t finish the scholarship application on ApplyTexas before the deadline. Crap. So, here I am, trying to find a way to fix everything.

Unfortunately, my grandparents (with whom I live) can’t be expected to provide any financial assistance as they have debt and no retirement money. My dad might be able to help some but probably not much. Fortunately, I’m considered independent by the FAFSA because my grandparents are my legal guardians. However, I don’t know exactly how the financial aid stuff works.

All too late, I realized UT is the college for me. Everything about it seems to be better than other schools I look at. I think I’d choose it over MIT (which I applied to on time but one of my recommenders hasn’t submitted his recommendation) if I were admitted to both. Right now I’m hoping everything somehow works out.

My first choice major is Electrical/Computer Engineering, my second is Computer Science, and I intend to be a part of music ensembles and the marching band if I’m admitted.

My main question is if I will get financial aid (besides student loans) without the ApplyTexas scholarship application. If so, how much, and what about for departments and honors? I was hoping to get a scholarship in engineering or computer science or music, but those seem to be from the ApplyTexas application for engineering, music auditions which I didn’t do because I didn’t know anything about them (I really suck), and I don’t know about for computer science. :-S

I’ve applied for the Presidential Scholars, Dean’s Scholars, Turing Scholars (Comp Sci) programs, as well as Engineering Honors.

Also, to be clear, I have an EFC of zero for my FAFSA.
