what house are you all choosing as first choice (just interested) and why if there is a reason that is

is anyone choosing welch…can someone explain this house to me…i mean can someone explain what “quiet living” means and if its viewed as a benefit or disadvantage at cmu

my top three are

Morewood E

Morewood A-D

Mudge

I think "quiet living" in welch means you are supposed to keep it quiet in there all the time, like no yelling and stuff. It would be good if you like to have peace and quiet to work anytime, but you wouldn't be able to make much noise, i think.

Personally, I'm choosing Morewood E. New House is a close second, but i decided bigger rooms + food at underground > a/c + coed floors + more expensive

morewood E, then donner, then mudge. i choose where there's just freshmen, because if i was with upperclassmen, it'd be harder to start a group? i'd have to join a group of friends instead.

they all have big rooms, and morewood has like, everything. donner's next closest, but mudge has the special rooms, like prime quads and triples.

i think since we're girls, it's easier for us to get morewood e? or so i heard, anyways

yeah i really like morewood esp because of the bigger rooms! but really wish i could have seen the rooms before choosing

do you mean donner has 3/4 people to a room?

i think theres alot of advantages in being a girl at cmu? :)
considering its less than 40 percent of the population

i chose morewood e, new house, and mudge
morewood e for its relatively bigger rooms, good location etc,
new house because its new
mudge for its big rooms though kind of far..

nah, i think donner's straight doubles? no prime anything.
it's advantage is being close to all the other dorms.
although apparently it's "a toilet turned inside out"
(someone on this forum called it that)
aka, nice on the inside, gross and smelly on the outside....

and there are, i think, advantages to there being 40% girls.. and it being a geek school.... hopefully!

and mudge definitely is far. but they have prime rooms! which are sweet.

im still a bit confused on the whole "geek school" issue...ive never really been in that kind of environment before...i mean im used to being around people that are well...how do i put this...not WONDERFUL students...like most of my friends are going to rutgers because they have to other option, not just because its close and cheap. so yeah...this is going to be a new experience

i went to gov school this program in my state that ALMOST got cancelled... it's like geek camp, basically and it's a lot of fun. when there aren't people that look down on geeks, it really motivates you to do your work, and it's just am AMAZING experience. i mean, at camp i felt pressured to not do work and be cool, but i feel like at carnegie, i'll be able to find people who will be just as hardcore about academics as i am. at least, that's what i'm hoping.

*oh, and another plus to donner is that it's co-ed by wing, not floor. morewood's by floor...which i personally think sucks a lot. but easily accessible shiet > meeting guys.... ish. hahaaa.

ahhhh im so excited and so nervous and anxious...these three+ months are going to be hard

I think we need a chart for this: what are the dorms? which are co-ed? singles or doubles? how big? and what defining characteristics? (thanks to everyone by the way...)

we definatly do! i get confused...alot

idamayer...where are you from?

oh, did you guys get the welcome packet? i explored the CD.
this website is like..my life

pg. 12 and 13 are the charts.
it's sooooo useful.
defintiely helped me in my decision.

yeah i got it but havent had a chance to look at it yet...ill get around to it though...hopefully soon...procrastination...is not good

i think im in major denial about this whole college thing

like i know im going to have to go...but i dont think i came to terms with the fact that its actually going to happen

morgan17:
I'm from Texas, I'm a junior and I'll be applying next year, but I am rather excited about CMU...

oh haha wow...i didnt even know of cmus existence when i was a junior

yeah... actually my CS teacher reccomended it to me... I really like it...
the academics look great, I am a little apprehensive about the social atmosphere (eg dorms - where I will be living) because, of course, I have never lived away from home with a lot of people my age - I dont really like the greek scene so much, because I'm not really into that sorta stuff... But otherwise I <3 CMU
