Ok so i did not get into any of the good colleges that i applied too. Therefore, i have to go to the university in my state which i really dont want to go to. I want to attend university of virginia for the 2011-2013 year. No, i did not apply to this university this year because i did not learn about this college until it was too late. I still have not picked my classes for 2010-2011 school year at UNLV. I read the university of virginia transfer rules and the university requires atleast 24 credits to be eligible to transfer.

Will I be able to get 24 credits at the current university in one year?
What classes should I register to?
What are the chances of getting transferred after the first year at UNLV?

I know it is too early to plan for transferring next year; but i think if i start planning now it will be easier next year. Any advice and answer to the question welcome. Thank You.

correction to the previous thread. I want to attend university of virginia for my undergraduate degree; which means from the second year onwards

1) You need to look at the courses offered at the university you will be attending and determine how many you must take each quarter/semester in order to reach 24 credits
2) You need to look at the program you want to transfer into at UV and the classes required. Also you will need to look at the transfer application for UV and see if there are any required classes that you need to take before transferring.

Lastly, when you apply to transfer on the essay make sure you don’t say you want to transfer just because you think the school you’re at now sucks. That’s a turn off for admission officers. Have a compelling reason why you want to attend UV :)

24 credits the first year is no problem. Most freshman students have nearly 30 credits by the end of two semesters.

Register for classes that transfer AND pertain to your major (if you know what it is). If there are transfer required classes, register for those. There should be a list on the website somewhere.

It’s usually easier to transfer into the college of arts/science over engineering. You can change schools if you get accepted, but I’m not sure how that process works in Virginia.

Transferring after the first year is possible, but they’ll (most likely) look at your high school record because you haven’t gained “enough college experience.”

Like Mathewlr said, write an amazing essay about why you want to attend the school. It’ll make you stand out from other transfer students.

I have really good high school record. I was valedictorian with 4.8 GPA, varsity track for 4 years, varsity cross country for 3 years, Treasurer of National Honor Society, More than 300 hours of community service, scholar athlete…is this good enough of a high school record to get into University of Virginia’s school of arts and science as a second-year transfer student if i keep up really good grades in my first year at University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Transferring OOS to UVa is difficult. Keep in mind they must maintain a ratio of IS and OSS, and approx. half of all transfer seats go to VCCS students. But keep up your grades and write a strong essay!
