Fish Camp: Is it fun?

I'm thinking about going to Fish Camp with a friend or two. What types of activities do we do there? I've been told that it's all about A&M traditions, but I'm not really into those things, so I don't know if Fish Camp is right for me.

Also I've been told that they will have to be split up people with groups?

you should go to fish camp.

If you and your friends sign up for the same Fish Camp session, chances are yall won’t see any of each other. They break the sessions up into groups of different colors (red, blue, yellow, etc.), and there are a LOT of people there. And even further within your colored group, you are broken up into “DGs” or Discussion Groups of ~10 people that you do most of the events with. Sometimes you won’t get your first choice of session either. So again, chances are you won’t be with your friends… but that’s just a better chance to meet more people and go outside your comfort zone.

Fish Camp really isn’t ALL about A&M traditions. Yes, you do learn most of them that way you don’t get on campus and feel left out because you have no idea what other people are doing. Fish Camp is just a really good chance to hang out and be friendly with incoming students that are in the same situation as you: they are just looking to make friends. That way when you get to campus in the Fall, you already know people… many of whom would like to hang out with you. Also, your DG (Discussion Group) leaders are people who have already gone through atleast a year at A&M, and are very willing to show you around campus, show you where your classes are, answer any questions you may have about A&M or life at A&M, and most also love the opportunity to hang out with you and the other people in your “DG”. Some parts of Fish camp will be boring and seem lame, it’s usually REALLY hot and humid at the camp so everyone sweats their ***es off, and by the end of the second day chances are you will likely just want to go home… but other than that it’s a really good experience that every incoming freshman should attend.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

There was no Fish Camp when I was a freshman in '74 but my son went in '97 and he LOVED it! He was not the type that you would have thought would have taken to it either. I do not think you will regret going and it is not something you will have a chance to do again. Do it! You will come out totally Aggie-fied and it will enrich your whole Texas A&M experience.

I am in session G!

Then I’ll just say WHOOP!

Live Oak, there was fish camp in 1974!
Fish camp began in 1954

firescorpy how do you know you are in session G? the confermation emails don’t go out until July 13. The only thing we know for sure now is Session A is full.

klparker312,
