Fishcamp

I was just kind of making this thread for future people who may come and search about fishcamp to try and make up their mind about going or not. I just got back from fishcamp and it was really awesome.

I wouldn't really consider myself shy but I would consider myself not really outgoing. The camp was great for all of the different types of personality types. You will make so many new friends and have such an amazing time. Kids inside my DG and Cabin bonded throughout the week and became good friends.

The counselors are awesome as well and they give everyone valuable insight on Texas A&M and being successful in college. I learned so many yells and traditions and lost my voice in the process.

If you're on the fence about going definitely go. It will definitely be fun and it will be a good experience.

Good to hear! My son goes on Wed. Hope they don’t come back too exhausted since he’ll go straight to his dorm to move-in on Saturday evening.

With this heat, he’ll come back “beat as a rug”. Daughter got back last Sunday, went stright to bed and slept for 16 hours.

Fish camp was a blast. However, many of the nights being up past 3 am were hard on the body after everything was all said and done. The food they serve there is atrociously bad. I could barely stomach some of it. However, you have so much fun that you forget about all the bad meals, the excruciating heat, and loss of sleep.

I actually enjoyed most of the meals, and it is extremely hot and brutal. If your daughter got back on Sunday that means she was session D which was awesome (at least if you were in the green camp)!

^ You are the first person I have heard from that has enjoyed the meals. Then again, taste differs from person to person.

i agree aggieengineer. i didnt hardly eat anything all week…lol but fish camp was SO fun and it was a great way to get a group of friends before getting to college station

I couldn’t agree anymore with the OP. All the traditions, yells, meeting new folks, and losing your voice is a great experience, LOL.

The only thing is I went to T-CAMP since I transferred in and am not going to technically be a “fish.”

I would and will for ever more STRONGLY recommend T-CAMP to anyone transferring into TAMU.

Fish camp was great!! I cant say enough good things about the counselors. Many have continued to stay in contact with me through facebook, etc.

The food was bad and it was incredibly hot, but I would go back again without hesitation. I am now starting to understand what it means to be an aggie and I cant wait to be on campus.

I haven’t gone to fish camp, though I planning to go this summer. Anways, I found a youtube video about fish camp, and it looks amazing! So if anyone wants to see, here ya go!

[YouTube - Texas A&M Fish Camp](<a href=“Texas A&M Fish Camp - YouTube”>Texas A&M Fish Camp - YouTube)

Watching that makes me really want to go back : (

Seriously, if you’re on the fence about it- GO!

I was totally nervous going into fish camp, and to be honest, the first day had me overwhelmed and terrified out of my mind. I actually hated it the first day and a half, until I started to get to know people. I am a pretty quiet person normally, but after I got used to it, I was yelling with the rest of my camp. And my DG was freaking awesome. We actually got pretty close, and have a ton of hangouts planned for the first couple months.

Fish camp is an experience that I would totally recommend to anyone going to A&M. Yeah, the food isn’t the best, but there’s always cereal at breakfast and a salad bar for lunch and dinner if the main meal isn’t appetizing. Plus, the iceberry blue is amazingggg. Drink plenty of water though, because you are outside quite a bit, and it’s HOT. And yeah, you probably won’t sleep much, but it’s so worth it in the end. I’m so incredibly excited to be an Aggie now, and can’t wait to move in on Sunday!

I’m glad more people had an experience like I did and are encouraging future people to go. Like you I get nervous pretty easily and have had anxiety about graduation, fishcamp, going off to college in general, and other stuff.

If this thread helps to convince just one future Ag on the fence to go then we did our job

I just came from Fish Camp on Wednesday and it was amazing! It is a great way to start your life at Texas A&M. I am extremely shy and quiet and I was very nervous about starting school without knowing nobody. But thanks to Fish Camp I now know many people and made some friends.
One more thing: Purple FTW

Wow, must be nice being in big luxurious purple compared to what we stayed in for the GREEN camp. XD

Luxurious Purple? Nah. Just awesome purple. Supposedly the bunks we were sleeping in newer but I really saw no difference at all :D
