Can anyone please explain what exactly the Honors Contract program at Fisher is? All of the stuff I’ve been finding on the internet is kind of vague, but it seems to me like it involves getting a double major outside of Fisher? If this is true, how exactly does that work, as in do you declare your second major after getting into the program or do you have to have started a second major already to get in to the program? Thanks a ton in advance!

I’m in Contract, and am happy to answer any of your questions. You are required as part of the program to have a second major or a minor outside of the business college- popular options in my group have been a language major, Economics, Math, English, etc. I am minoring in economics to meet this requirement. You do not have to already be working on a second major/ minor by the time you apply for the program, but nearly all of us knew what we were planning on doing at that point.

Other requirements including having to keep a 3.5 GPA overall, as well as a 3.5 in your business honors classes, and your major/ minor classes. I don’t find this to be overly restrictive, as most of the students in the business honors programs are high achievers anyway.

The great part about the program is the opportunity you have to work with actual companies in a sort of student-consultant role. You will have your choice of a non-profit org in Columbus to work with for one semester, and then the next semester you will get to pick a project from whichever for-profit company signs up to work with us. My class worked with A&F,other classes recently worked with Dow chemicals, and Goodyear. This work is almost like a mini-internship, and when you are interviewing for summer internships, the honors distinction and the work you have done will help to make you a very attractive candidate.

Thanks for the response, the program sounds awesome. Do many (or any) of the people in the program do a dual degree in business and computer science? And what type of business do most of the people in the program do, ie specialization?

No one in my Contract group has double-majored in computer science, but you could certainly pursue this. At OSU, if you are interested, you can major in Computer Information Science (CIS) or Computer Science Engineering (CSE). Just as a heads-up, both of these majors are notoriously difficult, and you probably wouldn’t be able to finish in four years if you decided to double major in business and either CIS or CSE. My boyfriend is a CIS major, and the level of homework and he does is way beyond what I do, in terms of both difficulty and amount. OSU does offer a computer science minor, which would be doable within 4 years and would meet the requirement for Contract Honors.

Most of the Contract Honors people in my class of 30 are finance majors, although I believe we have at least one person from each of the more popular business majors: finance, accounting, operations, logistics, and marketing. One of my friends in Contract is a MIS major, which you may want to look into if you enjoy computer science.
