Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I absolutely would! I was seriously considering the Mini 10K (in Central Park) until it was cancelled. A shorter race would be more realistic for me.

I was a slug today and did nothing. I have worked more hours in the office this week than I have any week since March. Came home and had to help husband unload groceries, then make dinner, wine included, and now it’s late.
I have been doing “extra” lately (much less than many on this thread, I know), so I’m not feeling too guilty. Hopefully I will be better over the weekend.

Ah, yes, the haircut is done. I’ve been sheared.

I walked a few miles, maybe 3, yesterday. I had to “run” errands, so I walked them.

Today was Oly lifting day. Cleans up to about 92-95% of PR, but then I quickly lost it. I couldn’t turn the bar anymore. The HIIT was a 5-round combo of hang power cleans, toes to bar, dips and thrusters. Under 16 minutes. Core work was a 3x10 of glute ham raises and good mornings. And I finished up with a recovery paced 5-min air bike and a 5-min row. With 3 sets of DB rows in between.

The gym was very crowded today. Maybe 10-12 people. We must have gotten some refugees from various gyms around town. Everyone is still wearing masks when talking and not under any stress of weight or doing cardio. Noticed they added floor fans too.

I remember when on a Friday late afternoon, I’d be alone in the gym. I miss the good old days.

A brisk walk… the 12,000 stepper. Avoided the Covidistan again. Although the weather soured out, so it was much less crowded. I like WFH. No one pops in my office and gets weirded out by the presence of exercise equipment.

Met up with 3 of my running buddies. It was hot and humid so the planned 10 mile run turned into an 8 mile run. Still, not bad.

The larger running group is planning a social distance coffee meet up tomorrow morning in a local park. Brink your own coffee/tea/whatever you drink and something to sit on. I usually stay in on Sunday morning, but I’m planning to go to see everyone.

I had to back it down this morning. I was too gung ho with my calf raises yesterday. One set was done with toes in/heels out. I was very good and did my very best to keep my heels as wide as possible. So proud at how well I did! And then last night - ouch! Lol. The outside muscle of my calf is not pleased with my effort. It told me it was not going to run. So I just walked the hood and did some yoga and core.

I rode my bike over two hours this morning- one pretty quick, and the other not so much, but I got it done.
Over the next couple of weeks I suspect my exercise will start going back to less during the week, so more required on the weekends. I am going to really start missing the gym, which is open, but I’m not ready to go back yet.

10 miles with pretty good low HR compliance- especially until the last few miles. Plenty of walking breaks. Very warm and humid, but cloud cover and some of that Sahara dust that is settling in. I was planning 8 or 9 miles for this morning, but towards the end I figured I could stretch it a little. I like to have a 10 mile run.

Yesterday was a Bench PR of 105# for 2 triples.

Volume Press was supposed to be a repeat of 66# for four sets of 5.

Uh, that was 5, 4+F, 4+F, 4

I decided to postpone chins.

Today I knocked off the chin-ups. Unassisted first 5-4-4-4

Skipping squats & deadlifts today.

I have to work at the restaurant tonight and it’s hot & muggy & I’m cranky.

I have a phone interview on Monday for a good job I’m under-qualified for. If they are willing to train, I should be good. If not, I’m not their person.

I told my bosses I’m actively looking for another job.

I think there is background stress in my head that is making it difficult for me to concentrate on training. Last night I woke with a start. I think it was nightmares. Tough time getting back to sleep.

Tomorrow is yard work day and prep for interview!

Good luck with the interview @Midwest67.

“the planned 10 mile run turned into an 8 mile run. Still, not bad.” - Not bad at all!! I’ve never run more than 10k. and I only did that a few times (in idyllic weather).

@Midwest67 Other than those young women who are the world record holders for the bench press (different weight class), I’ve not personally seen a female bench 105# for triple in the gym in person. Wow! And good luck with your interview. Didn’t Woody Allen say 90% of success is just showing up? ?

When I’m training in the gym I never worry or think about the outside world for some reason. Now, when I’m running, too much time to think. I hate running. Not as much as burpees though.

A VERY long workout today. OK, let’s see. After warmup, I started with 11 sets of muscleups in roughly 20 minutes. I then moved on to the back squat and quickly got up to 90% of PR. Next was a 10-min 5 round combo of GHD sit-ups and handstand push-ups. Bench press to 90%. And I finished with a 30-min run on the treadmill.

Tomorrow I have an 8AM walk with a friend/neighbor. And maybe a run later. No gym tomorrow. So sad.

Sending you the good vibes for the interview @Midwest67 !

Good luck @Midwest67 . Even if this isn’t the right one, something will definitely come along.

4.7 miles this morning. It was about as bad of weather as we get around here- 76 degrees early in the morning with over 90% humidity. Cloud cover (and Sahara dust) fortunately. 41 mile week for me, which is pushing it. 60.2% across Tennessee!

Good luck @Midwest67 !! ?

WOW @MomofWildChild, 41 miles seems like a lot, even for you?
My husband used to run 1200+ miles a year, and I was impressed, but that would be over 2,100 Miles a year!

We rode 24 miles today. I woke up feeling not great, and I was surprised my husband agreed to ride with me. We did them much quicker than when I ride with the friend I’ve been going with lately.

At my current age, my best level is 34-38 miles a week. I was hitting over 2000 a year until a couple of years ago. It was just too much. I used to always run over 40 mpw and “back in the day” it was 60-75 miles per week. It’s crept up a little right now because of this Race Across Tennessee. Also, it helps a little that I don’t have to get up as early and get ready for work. I can get out the door to run at 6:30 or 7, do more than I did before COVID (4-5 miles now) and roll right up to my first morning calls.

I have not been able to get out running recently. But man, loading/unloading those 10 bags of mulch yesterday was a chore! Then today I spread a few of them. DH started helping, so I switched to weeding/clipping… tomorrow I will likely be sore.

Functional fitness @colorado_mom !
