I did a 50k once. Never again!
2 great walks over the last 2 days. We added a bit more today than yesterday.
Sharing some other good news-- my weight just crossed (in a good way) a number evenly divisible by 5.
My workouts Monday and Tuesday killed me. So sore Wednesday, but I worked out anyway. More of the same today. Definitely taking tomorrow off.
@jmnva06 , we used to have 5 pound parties on the prior DEW (diet/exercise/wellness) thread. -is one in order for you?!!
You and me both, but my day off is tomorrow! I just had my second Moderna shot and expect tomorrow will be a good day to sleep in.
This morning I ran and it felt really good. I didn’t look at my watch in case it wasn’t as fast as it felt. I didn’t want it to bring me down. Good choice. It wasn’t slow, just not amazing as it felt. Workout was Full body Tempo week 1 from The Work. I did pretty well with that. The first block always kills my forearms (pull-ups following by handing leg raises - 3 sets. Barely any rest to stretch them out) but after that it was good.
I woke up feeling great so did a weight workout.
@abasket – I believe so. I’ve actually dropped more than that since my peak.
Will check back in later, my wife and I are walking to a beer garden for dinner. My route choosing was requested to find one that is 5 miles long (in total)
I just walked for about an hour and 45 minutes. Walked fairly quickly, it no idea how far. Figured it was nice out and a good break from biking.
Sorry not meant as specific reply, I just forget here are 2 reply buttons.
I’m a fan of all activity but have to say I also love seeing people embracing walking. I work up plenty of sweat on a brisk walk! Walking is likely to be something you can continue to do indefinitely. My mom is 87 and has been walking daily for decades. Was swimming several times a week too until Covid. She has to use a walking stick now for balance but her day is not a good day unless she can walk!
@1214mom a brisk walk for me is about a 15 minute mile. I can sometimes get a little below that but then I’m nearly jogging!
Although I am a runner I am a huge fan of walking. I love it. Walked 4.5 miles today.
Ditto here. I love walking. I cover more ground running, but walking is relaxing and clears my head
@abasket . Walking is an awesome way for people of all ages to stay active
Goal achieved: 3.7 there and 1.5 home. If there are beer nerds here, they added Hopslam when we were ready to leave, so we had 1 more than planned.
Perhaps this was my 5 pound party
Well deserved! We all need perks in a form we like!
It was supposed to ran early this morning - and it did. We rescheduled group run to later and then called it off. For various reasons. I waited until the rain stopped and went out to run in the cold and damp. Managed 9 miles, which I think might be the longest non-race run I have ever done solo.
Walking is great! My 93 year old dad used to do a lot of sports (tennis, skiing and after retirement a volunteer adaptive ski instructor, wind surfing). But I think it’s his walking that has kept him young. He started in his 60s, when his chocolate lab required long evening walks. He still walks a few days a week, sometimes a mile or more.
I didn’t do much exercise this week, except for fantastic Tuesday ski day at Breckenridge. We has ski-in/ski-out condo, so I had a lot of runs in morning … then condo lunch… then lots more runs in the afternoon. It was windy, but with 30s temp and gorgeous sunshine it was not a problem.
I am a “blue-cruiser” mellow intermediate skier, so where I most appreciated my better fitness was clomping around in ski books with skis on my shoulder getting back/forth to the ski trails near the condo. Year ago I was younger but not running, and it was much harder to do it then. Of course in younger years I was probably tired at the start from getting the whole gang ready to ski.
I hope that I’m walking like your dad when I’m 93!
I rode my stationary bike today for an hour while watching college basketball. In theory, I burned 600 calories and worked up a bit of a sweat, but by BPMs never got above 105. That sent me down a rabbit hole of how hard do I need to work to get endorphins, because that it one of the main reasons I exercise, for the mental health benefit. I definitely didn’t have them after that hour.
Anyway, in my research, I came across this article and thought it might interest y’all. I think I knew this from my marathon-running days – that I’m burning more carb calories at the higher intensity, which is why I would eat Gu – but this was a good reminder that there are benefits to not always going all out all the time. And I guess it’s good that I can ride a bike for an hour and my heart rate stays low, right?
I made it 30 miles on my bike today. This week we finally get the elliptical we ordered back in November. That will add a little variety but I will stick with mostly riding and my H will do the elliptical when he doesn’t run outside.
Went for cool but very muddy hike at a nearby State Park. Total mileage was just short of 6 miles. We met my D and her husband for a recovery beverage and early dinner at another one of my favorite breweries (for DMV folks-- Fair Winds in Lorton).
Tossing in my other walking around for the day, I had 17K steps for the day
Rode 19 miles in 1 hour on my bike, then took a break and did another 17 miles in an hour, trying to keep cadence between 80 and 90. Now I smell so bad I can’t stand sitting with myself
