Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I did a 35 minute full body workout from the HASfit pair, then another 10 minutes of TRX rows and pullsups, and some arm stuff on the bench. Spent 10 minutes on the bike as there is no way to go outside today, but I really loathe the bike. Rainy and very windy. So far the oaks out front have only shed small branches.

The accident actually happened at 1:09am. The neighbor across the street have a ring doorbell and it caught it. It was definitely an idiot accident / nothing to do with the storm.

There is actually a third Concept2 model, called the Dynamic, which is supposed to feel closer to rowing on water.

The comparison table is at https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/compare .

I purposely didn’t include the dynamic rower. It was unavailable even before Covid-19, and unpopular due to it being a more technique-oriented than exercise-oriented. Watch the video, if you’ve not ridden/used one. Also, it’s the most expensive, so in other words, not a viable alternative for someone looking for general exercise. IMO.

But if you have used one, a dynamic rower, then please let us know your thoughts.

Are you a big rower, @ucbalumnus ? How do you like the dynamic over the other styles? Does it help you on the water?

We belong to a pretty pricey gym, and we’ve gone there for many years. I have been debating buying a couple of good pieces of equipment and canceling our membership once this is over. But, it is nice to get out of the house, and I keep telling myself that I should take advantage of their all-inclusive classes, including spin and some yoga classes.

I feel like our gym membership is going to be $$$ thrown out the window for the rests of this year. Our “year” at our gym - it’s all the various rec facilities at the university I work for has been closed since earlier in March and in fact, at least one of the options (the one closest to home) is now being used by hospital staff to shower and change after shifts with patient contact. Don’t think it will be open nor will I feel comfortable hanging out there for awhile!

@abasket, I am actually glad to hear the medical people have a place to shower, etc.
What a strange time this is.
Sad but true - paying a fair amount for gym membership helps me get myself there.

My 1-year gym membership expires mid-May and here in the SF Bay Area we were shut down mid-March. I’m electing to not pause my membership, offered to all gym members, and let the small business just take the last two months of my membership/money. Maybe that’s why they loaned me the rower and weight vest to take home for free.

Today was a very long workout. Worked to about 90% of my max snatch and then front squat. The HIIT was a total of 47 minutes, including two 5-min breaks. The first section was thrusters and cleans. The 2nd section consisted of 20 minutes of pull-ups, pushups, wall balls and air bike. The last section was 6 minutes of just toes to bar and rower work.

I 100% support the use of the gym shower facilities for the medical staff. It’s a really good use of resources. Between the mild winter overall and the virus our membership just hasn’t been used much !

Re: Lululemon/Strava Challenge- I discovered today that yoga counts. I will also take a walk or two later today.

I like a challenge. I think it’s just my personality, I enjoy have the accountability and something to record. I have an excel speadsheet where I record all of my fitness activities/stats/race results, etc. I might be a little weird.

4.1 outside miles this morning. Knee did well- heart rate and endurance level not so much. Chilly for mid-April (41) but sunny/windy.

My Garmin connects everything I do to my Strava log and to RunningAhead. RunningAhead is a great (and free- donations accepted) exercise log platform and also has message forums. The log can be customized with all your activities and keeps track of shoes, heart rate, weather (enters it automatically) and whatever else you want. I’ve been on it since 2009 and can search for past shoes, race results, training courses etc.

@FallGirl you’re not weird. Well, maybe just a little  You’re only weird when you let it overtake your life and MUST do more and more even when your body tells you no. That’s when you’re weird. Not that I could relate to that at all

I worked hard this morning. 10 miles with a detour due to river flooding. I didn’t know until I got there and was running for 5 min and noticed… uh… the river is right there! and I wasn’t at the lowest spot. Scrambling up to the business highway I went.

Then, I did Phase 3, week 4 cardio flow. I was tired, but worked hard and even did some handstands in the middle of the room after. Finished with day 9/22 of the ab challenge. I’m starting to look shredded and that makes me happy. I start a brand new program in 2 weeks and my goal was to start in good shape, because I think it’s going to be really hard. I won’t get to preview the workouts until next week, but I am excited.

I did my usual walking loop, albeit slower. Felt good to be back out.

No, although I have used a Concept 2 (not Dynamic) and was considering getting one.

What kind of new program @ClassicMom98 ???

Yikes on the river AND running near the business highway - be careful!!!

I don’t know how you do all that @ClassicMom98 . If I run 10 miles I’m not doing handstands afterwards!

3.2 miles on the trail. 29 degrees with a dusting of snow. April is a crapshoot here!

Then I tried Walgreens but no toilet paper there either. I’d like to not scour every store looking for toilet paper.

“light” person checking in. My weekend was spent doing yardwork which left me sore. Did yoga yesterday. Today I was going to go for a walk, but realized it would be better to do small bits of yardwork between meetings. The current tasks are raking the grass in prep for overseeding and fertilizing, and reinstalling the edging around the back mulch area, the edging had raised itself out of its trenches and needed to be taken out and have the trenches re-dug. The trenches are almost finished around the roots. I did half the mulch in the back last weekend. This is for the house we’d like to sell so I would rather ignore it, but getting reasonable looking grass would be a benefit.

Weight loss on track, well at least in the right direction. I have a goal in mind for when I will be able to do an official WW weigh in again.

@jackief , if you do WW mostly in person are they keeping in touch or making any modifications to reporting, etc.???

H has been going to WW for a few years but right at the start of Corona cancelled his membership
