Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

^^^ Anyone who can run a 5 min mile - even on an AlterG is a “wowser runner”!!!

My uncle turned 103 this week. Overall healthy and gets around on his own. Attributes it to a regular dose of golfing and walking all his life!!

@ohiooiho Just think how wrinkle-free your knee would be with Botox! That’s an interesting approach. Let us know what your doc thinks.

Actually you’d be pretty surprised on how fast you can run on an AlterG when weight is no longer a consideration. Unfortunately I took the weight thing to the extreme 2 years ago when I got down to 120 lbs. I lost muscle and unfortunately speed because I got obsessed with weight after training on an AlterG. You’d be amazed on how fast you can go. I weigh 135 lbs and when I reduce my weight 70% I’m suddenly at 95 lbs I’m barely huffing and puffing at 5 minute pace! The weight loss focus is one of the many things that got Salazar in trouble. It can be a big problem with female HS runners.

While I don’t focus on marathons and other long track events, weight is a huge determinate. Most female marathon winners are under 100 lbs and men under 130. Some studies have shown that dropping 1 pound will shave 2 seconds per mile off of your race pace.

Just finished my hour of indoor biking. Really thinking of investing in a spin bike when this is all over, because I like being able to do this at home.
The one problem I have is I can’t do the current bike thing while my very curious and active cat (she’s a bengal - they are known for being active) is awake. Fortunately, around 11 or 12 she takes a several hour nap, so that’s when I use it. (I’m afraid she will stick her paw or nose into the spokes or get too close to where I pedal).
I will likely do some stretching or yoga this afternoon.
I did get on my hands and knees and bleach clean the tile in my laundry room this morning. I count that as arm work

4 mile run this morning. As I mentioned, I like a routine and Wednesday is a running day for me. Got a call from one of my running friends- we text a lot but it was so good to talk with her.

30 minutes on the treadmill. All I could muster today

@Midwest67 You and your H, get well soon!

As I’ve probably mentioned several times over the years, for many years now, I’ve been focused not on my weight, but my body fat %. I would love to get retested and planned on it soon, unfortunately, the whole C-virus thing has put a damper on scheduling a test.

The weather here has been beautiful. Yesterday, was a 20-min handstand pushup and assault bike combo HIIT. And then did 3 sets of 10 ring dips, push presses and glute ham raises. And then finished up with a six 500m intervals on the rower. I was scheduled to run, but you guys made me guilty about not wearing a face mask while running.

Later today, it’s lots and lots of wall balls, burpees and deadlifts. Ugh! :disappointed:

Thanks Good People, we are hanging in there.

@deb922 - 30 minutes on the treadmill is great. You did something! Even if you did nothing (see Me- on Sunday) that’s OK too. A rest day is fine especially right now.

I walked for over an hour in the snow today. Not what I think mid-April should be like! I have lost 20 pounds since October, though, so I am sticking with my half-hour morning workout + long walk every day.

I may hit my step goal! I’m at 7214 and it’s only 6:00!

I lucked out, the radiology department at the hospital was dead today. Only one other gal and me in the waiting room. I was there for a long time because they had to sanitize between patients but obviously I have no complaints about that.

Will see what my surgeon has to say tomorrow. I want all of this hardware out so badly.

I know a couple of pages back some people were discussing rowing machines. I have a Concept 2 here. I did about 15 minutes on my own today and then a 4 x 10 minute workout with a class (over Zoom, since obviously the gym is closed now!) The class makes it much more fun, in my opinion, and I feel like I’ve made tremendous improvements in overall fitness since I started going to the class a couple of years ago. Before that, I would use the rowing machine every once in a while, but found it too hard and too boring on my own. (My husband is the one who used it.)

Anyhow, I would highly recommend it. It’s a low impact workout that uses most of the body. There are lots of online resources and workouts to follow, but it’s especially great with a class. (The one I go to is in Oakland, CA, called CRUfit; and they’re doing classes online over zoom for now.)

I’m feeling quite pleased with the progress I’ve made while we’ve been on lockdown, actually. Today’s workout felt much better than previous 10 minute intervals. I’m finally getting better at pacing myself and staying more consistent over time.

Nice work @kelsmom!

@Midwest67 I hope you two are both feeling better really soon. I ran for 30 min today (stopped for non-running reasons—aargh). I had a mask around my neck, but crossed streets, etc to avoid people. Going earlier in the morning makes this easier. I wish I could say it was at 6 or earlier, but even at 7:30 it’s way better than 10 (and cooler, too!).

Congratulations to all of us! Good consistency and progress. Way to go @kelsmom!

I did my regular yoga flow class this morning (on Zoom)and then did a workshop later in the day that my studio offered (on Zoom too). It was a workshop on yoga poses that help with lower back pain. We went through all the poses and the instructor recommended a book with more exercises to help with lower back issues.

Not all runs are great. 3.5 outside miles this morning before being slammed with work meetings/calls. It was 39 but sunny and dry. My legs were dead, my heart rate was high and the whole thing felt like 5K race effort. Good to be out there, though, and I’m not complaining. Stopped to take a picture with my iTouch of one of those signs people put in the street to slow down cars for children playing. It’s this little green guy with a sign that says SLOW! I was offended!

Did a 30 minute HIIT workout. Aggravated my heel yesterday running so decided to give it a rest.

But I did something!

I seem to only sleep well every other day. I so tired and have a slight headache today, so not sure what I’m going to feel up to. Also plumber is walking through the basement gym space today because the sump pump broke.

Exercise done for the day. Did a 30 minute HIIT workout, my home stadiums and a fast paced walk around the neighborhood. I pushed myself to go on the walk but I’m glad I did. I ended up going on a long more intense walk with a good hill at the end. I’m noticing a thread that once I get out my gate I’m good to go. My legs were sluggish today on my stadium steps to the point I had to catch myself from stumbling a few times. Since the streets are empty I did some balance work on the yellow lines down the middle of the road.
@mathmom I’m not sleeping great. I picked the wrong time to go off hormones.
