Last weekend I did not wear a mask, but I had an Artic (breathable fabric) neck gaiter in case I got worried. The path was more crowded than expected, so sometimes I’d step off the path to make sure to maintain 6 feet or more. I wonder if they will start suggesting a direction for us all to run / walk / bike (3.5 mile path around the lake).
It’s been a grueling week work work and weather (10 in snow, melted, then 12 new inches). My only “exercise” was for the neck… the Thunderbirds (like Blue Angels) flew over my part of CO to honor healthcare workers, and they were 40 minutes later than expected. Fun though!
Milee30 - you do know the stress treadmills have handrails? Plus they can put the treadmill at a severe incline so you are basically walking during the test. In addition some cardiologists have cycles. If you have cardiac issues Don’t think you should screw around.
Mine has handrails and inclines, too. Still stressful just to think about it.
I’ve told myself I’ll keep up with the diet and exercise mods for 6 more months and then go in if I need to. I’m not quite 50, have been active all my life and am a normal weight, eat veggies, etc. so I don’t think I’m at risk of dropping dead between now and then. Other than a lot of family history, you would never look at me and think I’m at risk.
^^^^You mention you have some symptoms - that I’m guessing is most of our concern. You can do everything “right” - eat right , exercise etc, but sometimes mother nature just doesn’t cooperate. Consider doing ALL the things - eat right, exercise - and see a doc to rule things out! (understood that you can’t get to a doc “tomorrow” right now…)
I promise I will survive until the Coronavirus thing has passed and will get things looked at then. I figure I’ll wait a few months until I hit that magic 50 and get all that stuff like a colonoscopy done in a single year to best max out healthcare expenses and maybe get insurance to pay for some. Until then, lots of veggies and continued activity. All good, really.
Well, I guess I know what my new running mantra will be for the foreseeable future, “I’m still upright - yay, me!”
I truly will get things looked at in a few months. I was actually originally going to do this in early April (about six months after I noticed increased symptoms, I gave myself 6 months to make diet and exercise changes to see if/how that changed things), but of course now with the Coronavirus stuff everything except C19 and delivering babies is on hold.
@milee30 I have fears about all sorts of weird things, so I get it. Talk to a cardiologist about it and see if there isn’t something else they can do. But they have 80 y.o.s with walkers who do stress tests. Surely, they can do something for you.
I have a friend who’s married to a cardiologist, so I figured I’d casually ask him about how many people fall or do something bizarre during the stress tests. I think he thought I was joking because he laughed for a very long time and moved on without answering the question. I made a mental note to not see him when I was ready to go in. But really, I will go. And I’m a little sorry I mentioned it and got us all off track.
Back to the topic - I did my long run today. A little under 8 miles. Didn’t die and felt pretty good but discovered that one of my favorite lightweight moisture wicking tops has seams that gave me nasty chafe burns where they rubbed one arm. Again, I never get cool injuries, only dumb ones. Not the end of the world and it’s nice to be out and about in the early mornings here.
Tomorrow I’m meeting a friend at a nature preserve that’s wide open so we can walk 6’ apart with masks on and catch up without getting in anybody’s way. I don’t want to be one of those moving human roadblocks that hog a path. We probably won’t walk very quickly, but with the amount we talk we’ll walk around for at least 4-5 miles before we realize it’s getting hot out and head home.
^^^This. Ya, I don’t wanna pile on, but… BTW, I’ve had treadmill belts skip on me, so I always spool them up slowly until I get to know and trust the machine.
@MomofWildChild thank you for the help. Head wear hasn’t been something I’ve ever had to consider in my life, except a baseball cap. I had to google how to wear one, because I never thought I’d have to wear one. I wonder if a buff qualifies as a “regular duty” face mask or not? Like in a store.
For my strength session, I bench pressed to near a max. The HIIT was a 23-min combo of a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 rep scheme of moderate weight squat cleans and 1 minute on the assault bike after each set. So 55 reps total and 10 minutes on the air bike. Definitely a lung burner.
I was going to finish up with a 2,000m row, but the ? “needed” me. So, I finished up with a quick 3x10 of glute ham raises. Tomorrow I’ll row and then run. I’ll need to order some buffs soon too.
I just wore it around my neck like a scarf but I could have pulled it up as a make-do mask if I had encountered anyone. This particular brand is too think to have much protective value as a mask, but if it keeps other people happy – I’ll be happy to put it over my face.
For trips to the grocery store, I’d choose something that is more of a real mask-- but for dog walking, I’ve got my hands full, so fiddling with any sort of ties or loops would be tricky.
Did a Zoom yoga class put on by my spin place. They are offering Zoom classes in a variety of topics at a lower price. They started on a different platform that was more expensive and tougher for me to figure out, but I can handle Zoom. Hoping this can spice up my workout life.
8 mile run on a beautiful morning. So happy the weather is nice, I live in a neighborhood with places to run and that I can go out there and do this. Yoga on zoom later this afternoon.
3.6 mile run this morning before the rain moves in. It was very nice outside and I finished up a 32.2 mile week for my first full week of running since the stress fracture. Knee seems to be doing well. Glad to get outside.
Been doing virtual yoga classes on Zoom for the last two days. Some days, I’ve done a class in the morning and one in the evening. I still prefer being in class with a group of people, but I’m starting to enjoy the virtual classes. I feel a little guilty posting on here, because after years of yoga, I’ve started to appreciate that it isn’t a competition–it’s a practice. So, I don’t have any PRs to report.
