I go to bed so tired & achy, and wake up in the night (and eat half the kitchen) and think there’s no way I’ll run in the morning. And then when I get up ready to walk instead, I feel mostly fine. Headed out and while I had the heavy legged feeling, it was not achy in a bad way, and my time was normal. That was the encouragement I needed to get through the video. It was the same Total Body Core workout from Phase 3, but it killed me today. I wanted to skip a few parts, but kept going. It helped that the cast seems to be struggling with peak week too. And then the ab challenge. Several times I wanted to quit, but didn’t. Mini win. Forget what day I’m on. Monday will be the final day 22. I’m getting there. Tomorrow is an easy day - yay! Now if I can just figure out how to take a nap and count it as work, life would be grand.
And I just told H that the reason gyms are mentioned in the reopening phase 1 is due to politics. That was all he needed to say he would stay away longer, otherwise he would have been first in line. I told him I’m planning on June 10th and then I’ll reassess.
And S just called that is laptop won’t charge. Finals - of his senior year - start today. Figures. His town has a Walmart and that’s it.
@ClassicMom98 - I “liked” the parts of your post about exercising even when you don’t feel like it and avoiding the gyms for a while after they reopen. Not liking the part about your son’s laptop battery. To get through finals, can he lug an extension cord with him so that at least the laptop can be on for the tests (if he’s doing them on computer) or the studying he needs to do?
My daughter told me about a FREE phone/laptop/tablet app (you can also under certain circumstances do this app on your tv - it’s relatively new I think so they are still working on bigger screen options.
It’s called FitOn. You can choose your type of exercise (cardio, abs, hiit, strength - SO many options), your length of time you have to exercise, the type of music you want in the background, etc. She was waiting for her computer to update and came out of her room SWEATY after a 20 minute leg workout!
@milee30 it doesn’t charge or get juice plugged into the wall at all. The same issue happened a few months ago and a new charger worked until now. So either this charger was cheap or it’s the battery. It’s 3.5 years old so we may just go with a new one as a graduation present. We will see.
There’s nowhere for him to go. The one at Walmart doesn’t fit and bestbuy is over an hour away.
He says he can borrow one from a friend. The tests are online. I’m sure it will be a PITA though. At least he will be done after Saturday!
@ClassicMom98, what a pain, and of course the worst timing. I hope it doesn’t stress him out too much.
I did a little over an hour walk around the neighborhood this morning. (4 miles or so).
My legs are feeling sore, and I have a pain at the top of one leg - I’m guessing it’s from my light jogging yesterday.
I will stretch and do light weights later, but met my 60 minute goal for the day.
I’m only a little bit sore from the kettlebell work out which reminds me of something else I should have ordered from Amazon today! Today we’ll go for a walk somewhere. Not sure where or how long. It still looks pretty gloomy outside. It was sort of sleeting this morning.
Thanks to everyone who made sock suggestions. I really like those Balegas. Nice! ?
I’ll be the first one back in the gym here. I was literally one of the last in the gym before the shelter-in-place. Hand sanitizer, wipes and face masks will work fine for me.
Today was gorgeous here in the SF Bay Area. For me, it was a no shirt workout day. Lots of vitamin D. I flip flopped Wednesday/Thursday, took a rest day yesterday, and had a long workout today.
After warmup, worked up to heavy 5-rep back squat, followed by two supersets of weighted barbell step-ups (20” tall box) and glute ham raises. Then I built to a heavy-ish 3-rep clean and jerk. The WOD was a mixture of wall balls, DB hang clean and jerks, rowing and the “devil’s press.” Just made it under the 30-min timecap.
Easier day today: Modified Cardio Core workout plus the baseline Fit Test for my new upcoming program.
Super easy walk/run and thankful that the t-storms either passed or didn’t happen. Yesterday, getting anything in didn’t look favorable. Doing the fit test on a super sore body was super awesome. Looking forward to trying again at the end of the program. Some of the moves I either hadn’t done in ages or ever (1 min of burpees), but I was pretty pleased with the results. I took the full 2 min break in between exercises in the beginning and little to none at the end. 50 push-ups, 15 pull-ups, 25 burpees (1 min), 5:00 plank, 4:00 wall-sit, 3:00 standing balance left leg, 2:30 right leg. I skipped the vertical jump. There isn’t a good place in the shed. Then, day 19/22 of the ab challenge. When I feel my stomach, I can feel all of my little ab muscles everywhere. But when I look in the mirror, they go into hiding. I guess they are introverts like me.
Of course, competitive me is never satisfied and wants to do better. But then I tell myself for an aging lady, I’m doing really well!
It’s down right getting hot right now. Mid 80’s temp-wise. Today’s menu included 7-8 sets of squat cleans, just a few sets of handstand push-ups, since the shoulders are sore and a bit stiff, with the WOD being 15 minutes of jump rope, power cleans and thrusters. And I finished up with a core combo superset of a heavy dumbbell carry and GHD situps.
Rain, rain. Had a little break before 8 am and got in a few miles - 5K done. Will do some more on the treadmill later but at least I got outside for a bit. I got a little wet but it wasn’t terrible.
Rain is heading our way but it was beautiful this morning so I went out for 6 miles. I chose a hilly route today, but was pleased with my pace.
This Monday would have been the first night of this year’s training program that I coach in. Several of us are going to run (separately!) a mile or 2 in our neighborhoods that evening with our program/coach shirts from last year (or any year). I will do this but with a heavy heart. I so looked forward to this program that started me in running. I have not only continued but have made so many good friends and found my passion for coaching and encouraging other women with their own fitness goals.
Looking forward to next year already…
@FallGirl is there a fall edition? Maybe things will progress for a fall group??
This weekend is when our city marathon was scheduled to take place. I have been a course marshall for the 3 out of last 4 years at mile 25. Always enjoyed cheering everyone on for their last mile. I had been considering doing the relay marathon with my son and a couple others - but of course, cancellation.
Ran 3.3ish miles this morning on the trail near out house. There was a chalk message for a first time marathoner who must be using our trail as part of his route since people could choose to do the race virtually. It was neat to see the message for him but also choked me up a little! Dreams of the full race experience that have to be put on hold for another day.
@abasket - that hasn’t been discussed with our program, but another run club tried that. The issue is time. Because most women here work outside of the home and commute, we can’t start until 6:30. This becomes an issue in the fall with the days getting shorter. I might bring up the idea of a shorter fall session though…
I finished Day 80 of 80 day Obsession. Ok, I only did the last 30 workouts, but peak week kicked my tail. I don’t remember this week being that hard, but maybe it’s like child birth. I’ve repressed the memories. And day 20/22 of the ab challenge. My body is trashed. I am definitely looking forward to a day off tomorrow.
Older S finished his finals and just arrived home. He is officially done with college. It feels weird and anti-climatic.
