Hey everyone. I have FL prepaid. This means I can only pick from the 4 following dorms: Deviney, Kellum, Smith & Dorman. They all honestly look pretty bad to me, but can anyone help me in picking one out or putting them in order from best to worst. Which ones are the closest? The nicest? Cleanest? Etc. Any input would be great, as I am really unfamiliar with them.

Everyone generally agrees that of the two groups (Smith/Kellum and Dorman/Deviney), Dorman and Deviney are better. Now, you’ll have to balance that with the fact that there’s also construction going on to essentially rebuild Dorman and Deviney right behind where those two buildings currently stand.

I am not sure what the timeline of that project is… I thought that Deviney was going to be demolished this coming summer but I think they have pushed that back a year.

You don’t have to stay in one of the dorms with the prepaid, it’s just they are the only dorms that are paid in full by the prepaid program. Any of the other dorms, FL prepaid will give $2,600 and then you and your family pays the difference (about $500, but could be more or less depending on the type of room)

I am quite aware, but I don’t have the money to go elsewhere. FL prepaid was a huge investment for my parents 17 years ago, and we just can’t spare a penny for something like that. They paid $6,615 for 2 years, which is 4 semesters, or $1653.75 per semester. The cheapest option for not staying in those dorms is $2865 per semester. I have 3 younger sisters, so unfortunately, I can’t. But, hey, something is better than nothing, and I’m glad that I won’t have to worry about paying rent.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My parents got mine for me when I was first born, too. And I also have two younger sisters, and they weren’t able to afford to buy the dorm plan for the youngest. My parents originally thought that they only bought 2 year dorm, but it turns out that I have the dorm plan for 4 years :D

Oh, that must suck for your sister. We are so lucky because the 4 year tuition/2 year dorm plan was bought for every one of my sisters. It really is a life saver, since it really did save us money.

Well, it’s probably not too bad. We live close enough to USF to commute, so if the middle sister decides to go there, the dorm plan can be transferred to the younger one. But yeah, my parents are really glad that they did the prepaid plan when we were young

Pasbal is right about everyone putting the dorms in 2 groups: Smith/ Kellum and Dorman/Deviney but I have friends in all of these dorms and spent time in their rooms and they shouldn’t be grouped that way, in my opinion. They’re just close to the other one in their groups.

Dorman/Deviney probably have a more central location than Smith and Kellum. My friend’s dorm in Deviney has carpet not tile, the room’s pretty small, probably the same size as Smith. My friend in Dorman had mold in the room, but the room wasn’t too bad. Oh and don’t let that scare you away, I’ve heard of mold in almost all the older dorms. It happens sometimes.

Thanks for the advice, @1question , but I visited Kellum, and I totally disliked it, no offense. I picked 1)Dorman 2)Deviney 3)Smith 4)Kellum. I didn’t like the vibe or how cramped Kellum was. I also didn’t like the built in beds.
