@kgolby My oldest daughter applied 5 years ago with a 1690 SAT, 4.1 GPA and mostly all A’s with a B here and there and she was completely devastated that she did not get in. She ended up getting a full ride at another college out of state. My youngest offered summer admissions and she had a 26 ACT, 3.9 GPA with a lot of Honors classes and over 250 volunteer hours. I would love to explain how one didn’t get in and the other did. Congratulations to all who got in and to those who did not dust it off and move on you will succeed no matter where you go. I have one of each that I can attest to
HELP!
Admitted for Summer rather than Fall. However, I’m on the west coast and graduation is two weeks before FSU’s summer term starts. I’m not able to get across the country for the start of summer term. Plus, I work in the summer to pay for college.
Anyone have any experience or insight on whether FSU will change my admission status to Fall?
You need to call them directly. I’m sure they have had this issue before and can walk you through it.

FSU Admissions is very candid and very helpful. If a student wasn’t submitted and you are wondering why either have your HS college advisor call or call yourself and ask to speak to someone about your decision. They are usually able to offer some guidance on what may have driven the denial. In the past a friend’s child was offered Spring only with a 1280 SAT and about a 4.2. When they called admissions explained it was due to the UNWEIGHTED GPA being lower than their 50% range and a lack of AP classes–so strength of curriculum. They were also able to explain options for Spring.
@swimswamswum2020 Call the admissions office and explain your hardship and ask for a term change. If this literally will prevent you from attending FSU, I would tell them that – in an earnest way.
There will be kids who decide to go to summer instead of Fall, so a term change for a non-ego reason seems reasonable.
I think the numbers you stated are not accurate. There is no way they “Accepted” only 6000. That is what they want their yield to be so if they want 6000 freshman they may have accepted 2X that many thinking many will end up going to other schools esp. UF. It seems like UF and FSU are pretty similar to UVA and VT. Students apply to both and then they decide one over the other. That could be why VT ended up over enrolling last year as they got more Yes’s than they thought they would. Its all a number game
Similar to VT alot of acceptances are based on major. My son got into FSU OOS with lower stats than many who were denied. He is Sports Management and if he had applied Business he probably would not have gotten in. Just my 2 cents
No way they only accepted 10%. 6200 is their target freshman class but how many were actually accepeted? If they get From a prior year there were 50300 apps, 18500 accepted, and 6260 in freshman class so the yield was about 30%
jgwolf & NJOOSNOSIDAM:
True about the ultimate yield being the goal. Last year their metric was off and they admitted it during my D’s orientation. They received 60K plus applications, sent out 19K invitations to attend and was surprised when 7K accepted. As someone earlier pointed out earlier, this was their biggest entering class. They try to make the numbers pan out, but they don’t always do. I’m suspecting they might have offered less admittance this year to avoid a repeat of last year.
@jgwolf @NJOOSNOSIDAM Or they could have possibly had a lot of kids accept either a summer term, or seminole pathways option from last year, and need to accept much fewer kids in order to have enough space for everyone. I got the summer offer, and with me going on an international trip, and with my family in the process of moving, and also coming from Pennsylvania, it would be really hard for me to accept. However, it is a phenomenal school and would love to attend. I will have to weigh my options out.
@Anisqoyo Can’t speak for other year but 2019-2020 it was 19,230 admitted and they told us 7000 matriculated.
Accepted for fall 2020 but waiting for UF

Yes I think the data I quoted above was from 2018-19
My son admitted for spring. Has anyone ever gotten moved up to summer from
Spring? Not sure if all summer admits will attend so there must be a few openings. Still feel very lucky he got accepted at all!
@chgoodie That is exactly what happened at Virginia Tech last year. They didn’t have enough housing and ended up having to rent a hotel to take care of all incoming freshman. They have not come out with EA (mid Feb) but i suspect they will admit less than they did last year.
Odd how some get in and others do not. My daughter was accepted for summer session. In fact, they called her a week before Jan 31 and left her a voicemail to inform her she was accepted.
She wanted to attend in summer anyway to get a jump on things. Not sure of all her AP/DE classes but she has taken several. Officer in several clubs including NEHS.
Weighted GPA - 3.7
ACT - 28 (Super Score)
No SAT.
She qualifies for Bright Futures Medallion level.
Clearly there were more people that applied that had better grades than she did but we are excited for her and looking forward to it!
Only for some areas. Certain counties in Alabama and Georgia can get OOS waivers.
@MikeInFl I don’t think the OOS waiver is limited geographically. We are in Oklahoma and my S received the OOS waiver.
Anyone OOS with the right stats can get OOS waiver.
Ok, thanks. I was unsure and just looking over some info on the FSU website that mentioned OOS waivers for select counties in AL and GA but obviously it applies to others as well.
