@MikeInFl what you are referring to is something else. There is a geographical deal where if you live within a certain number of miles they do provide an out of state waiver. What I was referring to is a merit award that is available to anyone that qualifies.
Daughter admitted OOS w waiver

Son admitted w OOS tuition waiver

To clarify - full OOS tuition differential waiver.

So, just curious… we logged in and saw acceptance letter. But is there a way to accept the offer? I don’t see that anywhere. My daughter was also accepted to UWF and when they offered there was an “accept offer” button. I know they are two different schools but I figured FSU would at least have an option to accept the offer.
Also, did anyone else get a phone call? FSU called my daughter and left her a voicemail saying she was accepted a week before the letters were posted online.
Just be sure. I almost missed my daughter’s scholarship for OOS tuition waiver because it was a link at the bottom of the letter. Neither she nor I even saw it at first. Anyway, congratulations!!
OOS daughter accepted for summer
3.7 GPA UW
30 ACT
private school Long Island, NY
not sure she can accept summer. thoughts?
OOS Student Accepted
Act: 32
GPA weighted: 4.1
GPA unweighted: 3.9
Received out of state waiver
It qualifies her to APPLY to honors, it is not automatic. She will have more essays to write for the honors application…
It means she was invited to APPLY to honors, not that she is automatically accepted. She will have more essays to write for the honors application…
My son got the spring offer as well. Wondering if there is anyway to get moved up to summe.r? Surely all the summer admits won’t attend.
Not sure where you are getting those numbers, but the number that matriculated is double what your quoting
My son was offered the full ride Benacquisto Scholarship for National Merit and the letter states:
“This scholarship also guarantees admission into FSU’s distinguished Honors Program.”
Sounds like automatic acceptance to me. Congrats!
I cannot speak from personal experience, however some of my DD21 sorority sisters I have met were summer admits and found their anticipated stress levels going into fall less than expected. They knew the lay of the land better and had time to immerse themselves in the FSU campus environment. Obviously, other demands for some families might rule out FSU as an option.
is it true that all students have to do a summer semester at some point? Is there anyway to get out of it?

@BMC9670 Here is where I am getting confused. The letter says “guarantees admission”, but does not specifically state the applicant is admitted. I asked @vistajay about this earlier in the year. His son is a freshman NMS at FSU this year and he specifically stated his son had to apply to both the honors program and for the Presidential award. There was no automatic admission to honors last year for NMFs. I have to say I thought the letter meant auto admit, too. Now, I’m not so sure and think we need to check.
“Guarantees admission” is pretty clear. If they have to fill out an application it would just be a formality, and an unnecessary one at that.

The state requires something like 9 credit hours during the summer in order to improve “on-time” graduation rates. Yes, there are ways around it. They can be at another school, an internship, a research project, or a few other ways. The student would need sign-off from their advisor.
