Florida State University/ FSU Accepted Rejected Class of 2024

Does anyone know what the criteria is for receiving a direct admit to honors? My son is planning on completing the application - I was just curious - I did not realize students could receive a direct admit. thanks!

National Merit Semifinalists receive direct admit.

@ amsunshine thank you

Hi I know I have asked this already but I can not find any information on any websites anywhere. How do you get out of doing a summer session? I was accepted for fall so I am talking about how do I get out of doing that requirement altogether. I am an out of state student and I really don’t want to have to spend the summer away from my family. I also know someone said an internship was an option, so I was wondering why don’t more people chose to do an internship and get paid to do so. Is the summer session required for out of state students as well?

There is no way to “get out of” the requirement, but there could be alternative ways of fulfilling it - internships, study broad, online, other schools, etc. I think you can do this in any summer of your 4 years or over multiple, so take a deep breath and don’t panic. Talk to your advisor and figure out what works best for you rather than start your college career trying to find ways out of requirements.

@BMC9670 Just a follow up on the summer school question, do you happen to know how a student with DE credits coming in would be treated? For example, could those DE credits be counted toward the summer requirement? Thx.

@amsunshine Not sure. I wonder the same about AP/IB credits or advanced placement via testing. The goal of the requirement is to keep kids on track to graduate in 4 years, so you would think credits would count, but I don’t have direct experience with it (yet).

after i set up my FSUID and FSU email, it no longer lets me log into the application status portal that everyone uses bc it says i have an “invalid user/email/password.” has this happened to anyone else?

Just spoke to college counselor, no one from my high school got in. Good luck OOS next year! Crazy!

@kgolby was that GPA the recalculated GPA?

@kgolby was the 4.2 the recalculated GPA or the GPA on their transcript? if on transcript what is it recalculated ?

Can someone chance me for regular decision (term: fall/major: undeclared)?

UGPA 3.55 (WGPA 3.87) for first 3 years
Senior mid-year grades: UGPA 3.66 (WGPA 4.28)
SAT 1370 (Math 670, EBRW 700)
8 APs, 6 Honors and 2 DEs classes
lots of extracurricular activities and leaderships
OOS

@jhmoney I don’t understand what you mean by recalculated? Do you mean unweighted? If so, her UW GPA 3.67 but FSU asks for weighted GPA.

@kgolby fsu asks for their version of weighted which is only core plus all ap/IB/aice. You can use this to figure out the FSU Gpa

I understand your point but if I give you the 2x of acceptance letters going out last week, that is still only a 20% acceptance rate. That is a far cry and lower acceptance rate than what is advertised by FSU and most major web sites. More importantly, if you look at decision day last year in 2019, FSU claimed to have sent out over 18,000+ acceptance letters for what was then a record 58,000+ applicants. FSU is on record that acceptance letters for the 2nd wave of RD students would be slim to none due to the number of acceptances they sent out last year. This year, I personally believe FSU corrected that wrong by generally accepting a much smaller pool of students in EA that achieved exceptionally high scores in both gpa and college exam. So if you are now a RD student in 2nd wave for 2020, I think you will have equal to even greater odds as EA students gaining admittance. Again, these are good problems to have if you are FSU admissions but they should really begin to advertise far lower acceptance levels to prospective students, given the very large applicant pool versus the actual class size.

The summer requirement (it’s only 9 credits) is a state requirement. No, you can’t get out of it with DE or AP credits as a lot of students have those (probably everyone at UF and FSU has some type of credit).

There are alternatives, but really it is a requirement and if you don’t want to spend at least one summer in Florida, don’t go to college in Florida. You can do a May semester for 3 credits/3 years and still be home for the summer. You can look into the internships. You might find a great one on campus.

Some religious schools require a few credits of religion or theology. If you don’t want to do those, find another school. Some colleges require living on campus for 4 years. Don’t want to? There are plenty of schools that don’t require that.

I know kids who started in B session just weeks after graduation. Loved it.

@Katiemen1 I believe internships can meet the summer requirement and you also might be able to take classes online (therefore from home or anywhere) to meet the requirement. If it is a financial hardship, then I would speak with the school. And as @twoinanddone said: if you don’t like the requirement then go somewhere else. (As a side note, my daughter took two online courses over summer A last year, and she did some of here coursework while we were on vacation. She got As in both classes.)

You also never know how such things will shake out. When I was in school, granted it was a long time ago and the summer requirement didn’t exist, I ended up with many summer credits. For example, I got an internship for the spring semester of my senior year and took my last classes summer A- and then graduated.

Have any new admits received their physical acceptance letter via snail-mail yet? DD in FL, accepted for Fall 2020, still anxiously waiting…

We were wondering the same thing? we are in California, so figured it would take a few extra days, but still nothing, my DD checks the mailbox every day.

We’re in Florida and have not received any snail mail.
