Florida State Weighted GPA?

i know that they count "academic" classes (english, science, math, social studies, foregin language) and i know that an academic elective like AP Psychology would be counted, but would a class like law studies also be counted?? i took that class my sophomore year when i didnt have to take a history class and it was a semester long course and it was definetly academic, but would they classify that as such?

I think Law Studies would count as a social studies course, so they should count it. By “academic” classes, they mean that they’ll ignore P.E. and stuff like that.

I am pretty sure that GPA does NOT transfer based on your AP class. YOU ONLY get credit for the class if you pass the AP exam. Think about it, if you pass and get a 3, it would almost be as though a 3 is a C, a 4 is a B, and an A is a 5.

With AP classes, you receive CREDIT for the class, not a grade. It doesn’t hurt your GPA, or help it.

For your FSU weighted GPA (admission) all APs and IBs will count regardless of the subject. I’m pretty sure that’s the GPA you’re talking about.
If you’re talking about your college GPA (for grades in actual college classes), then those don’t count toward your GPA. They do for when FSU weighs your high school GPA though.

Actually, ALL AP AND IB classes are NOT figured into your FSU GPA for admisssions purposes. If you take AP bio for your science, yes. But AP Art classes are not academic classes and will not be used for GPA calculations. Architecture classes, law studies classes are also not used to calculate the GPA that FSU uses for admissions purposes.

They mostly are looking at CORE academic courses --language, 4 english, 4 math, 4 science and 4 history/social studies. I believe they do take more than 4 language, math and science. AP classes outside of core courses and any art, music, law, architecture, leadership, etc classes are not considered.

Uhh I was just going off of what I was told on the phone. They even counted my IB ToK class (a joke of a philosophy class with no exams).

We went to an admissions sessions while touring FSU this summer, and one of the students specifically asked about AP Art History, and was told YES, they do count that. The admissions counselor stated that they count ALL AP classes, but they only count DE classes that are core.

That’s what I thought. Thanks for the clarification.

Does anyone know if Florida State University would accept an Auto Cad class as a factor in recalculating gpa? thanks

That’s just a regular elective. Mine wasn’t counted.
