Foooooood

So what's the greatest breakfast to eat before taking any standardized test?

I just drink an ensure.

Frosted Mini Wheats. They're so filling, even for a person who aspires (to some degree) to be a competitive eater like myself.

Don't eat too much! I made the mistake of that before some SAT IIs and it made my life a living hell. (still scored well but it was uncomfortable)

Anyways I suggest anything with carbs.

Rice

breakfast of champions

Haha we were just talking about this today in our junior class meeting. Lots of people recommended eggs because they "stay with you", meaning they have protein so they fill you up and then keep you energized for a long time, i.e. perfect for taking a long test! Also drinking lots of water before the test is good, just not too much, because you usually aren't allowed bathroom breaks!

I'd go with some good old scrambled eggs and a nice doubleshot latte!! Or is it bad to have coffee before tests? I'm so clueless.

edit:: just read that FRUIT stimulates your brain and is a good test taking breakfast!

Scrambled eggs seems to be bad for some people's stomachs... I don't know if that's the case for OP, but it would suck to feel like throwing up while taking the SAT (although pain does sometimes aid concentration).

My teacher's recommended anything whole wheat and I usually have some peanut butter on test day too, for that "stay with you" protein factor. :)

I don't even remember what I had on my test days. Usually it was enough of a hassle to remember to wake up on time, and have my ticket and pencils and calculator ready. I didn't remember to bring snacks on any of my test days. Turned out well enough.

It seems like I'm trying to refute everyone's arguments for the best breakfast here, but...

Doodle, my doctor actually said that the protein in peanuts (and thus peanutbutter) is actually worthless. He also said that many people have mild allergies to peanuts, which can cause stomach cramps, etc.

Yeah, I'm pretty much a diet expert after having had so many stomach problems... ;-)

oh. i skipped breakfast.

and after the test, i gouged on mcdonalds.

What do you usually eat on schooldays? Sometimes it's good to stick to something familiar, and don't eat so much that your stomach will bother you... I think it's a good idea to eat some carbs as well as a little protein (eggs are always good). I would advise against caffeine unless you're very used to it -- it'll make you jittery at first and then dead tired by the end of the test.

I go to a diner right by the test center and get bacon egg and sausage on an english muffin with gravy fries (yes at 7am) and I wash it down with a redbull, followed by another redbull and nutragrain bar during the first break, and then a propel fitness water and another bar in the last break. I also chew gum during the test.

whatever u usually eat for breakfast, but something with carbs in it, i.e. bagels or cereals. A banana can provide some extra fuel, too, and be sure to bring a cereal bar or some chocolate to the test center so that u can eat it during breaks. Some very generous proctors (like mine) might hand out some sweets during breaks, but don't count on it.
