for JUNIORS who are ready to get onto THE PERILOUS ROAD

Ah yes! Junior Year, very important for the PERILOUS ROAD!!!!
My schedule has been very busy this year & ironically I've never been happier. I finally feel like I'm being challenged. All AP (Physics B, USH, Spanish Lang, English Lang, Calc BC & Bio)

My UW GPA was 3.8 in 9th & 10th grade. However, I am sure it is going to take a huge nosedive downwards. I'm thinking that I'll get anywhere between a 3.5-3.7 this quarter, but W GPA should be about the same.

If lucky, the W-GPA will in fact increase by the end of the year.

1st Quarter will probably have a mixture of A's and B's on the report card.

GASP for a CC'er, I know..

However, I'm ready to give up a high GPA for hardcore learning.

SAT's.... will take in January. I hope for the best. Scored 224 (69CR, 80M, 74W) on a practice PSAT, but don't feel as confident for the actual one. However, I learned that a 2400 SAT doesn't mean I'll be guaranteed acceptance at Princeton or MIT or some other "divine" university.

SAT II's: Already have taken many.
Chemistry/740, MathIIC/800, Physics/730, MathIC/710, World History/770.

EC's: This year is going pretty well in that area. I'm going to be on "The Long Island Challenge" this November (It's part of my school's "Quiz Bowl"). :). I'm also on the Suffolk County Math team & an active member of the Mathletes team. Vice Pres. of Junior Class, also a member of Debate, Grok (School's Literary Magazine), & Spanish Club.

This year is definitely going to be busy! I still have time for fav. such as, playing video games, reading for fun, spending time with friends, solving puzzles, watching funny shows ("South Park" & "Simpsons" are tops!), and of course the EC's count as hobbies. Time's also flying pretty fast this year, more so than past years.

What I hope for most is that I get into a good school which will make me happy & keep me stimulated intellectually. Thankfully, many schools are like that. I just can't wait to go though.

I'm probably getting 2 B's!!!!
GREAT.
Ruined my entire transcript.

Aw, I miss this thread!

Let's see... Only one B, in AP Chem, which is very bring-up-able. Got a 2190 on the SAT (800 M). Took math level 2 today - very easy. Tests left: SAT retake in Jan, ACT in Feb for kicks, AP's in May, SAT Chem in May. Clubs are going very well, especially officer positions. Tons of competitions this year (USABO, USNCO, NOSB, etc). Applying to like 5 summer programs (RSI, TASP, Gov School, etc). Starting a research project to enter to local ISEF-affiliated fair.

I feel like I've never been so socially/academically/extracurricularly balanced before. It's awesome. I love junior year.

holy crap. . .you're like the most prepped out junior on this board.
What's your target SAT? I took it yesterday, and concluded that I will no longer laugh at people who get 2200's. . .
And my district is making all the juniors take the ACT. . .Should I study for that? - i am shooting for a perfect score. . .
What's USABO, USNCO and NOSB?
Oh yeah. . .SAT II Chem is a ton crap of stochiometry. . .I would prep out for that. . .or die like I did. . .

Oh. . .and did the score report for the SAT I give you a curve for the math section? If so, can you tell me what the curve is like?

what up y'all, i havent read the whole 11 pages but im sure im a little behind in the college race compared to you guys. gosh, winter break is gonna be pure SAT studying.crap. for me, may is gonna be 3 ap tests, then the SATII's for those ap's in june or something. then im off to china in the summer! no summer programs for me! but i will be volunteering at a camp for 2 weeks. it be alright. time goes so fast.

I am going to die on the eighth day of AP testing. . .bio and physics the same day. . .

For AP's, I have 2 on Monday, 1 on Tuesday, 1 on Wednesday, and 2 on the second Wednesday.

fewfdsagdsag - my target is 2300 lol. I think I'm taking the ACT this Saturday as a standby tester - hopefully it'll make me feel better. Just practice practice practice. For science and reasoning it's all about speed.

USABO = USA Biology Olympiad (<a href="http://www.cee.org/usabo%5B/url%5D">www.cee.org/usabo</a>)
USNCO = US National Chemistry Olympiad (<a href="http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/acsdisplay.html?DOC=education%5Cstudent%5Colympiad.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/acsdisplay.html?DOC=education\student\olympiad.html</a>)
NOSB = National Ocean Sciences Bowl (<a href="http://www.nosb.org%5B/url%5D">www.nosb.org</a>)</p>

Hm... I love stoich! I'm taking AP chem, and I heard the SAT II is mad easy after taking it, so... we'll see how that goes.

ha sweet im on a nationaly recognised nosb team, i wasnt on it when they won some sweet award, but im sure we can repeat. also, im taking the act this weekend also. i should go study, oh well.

Ok, you guys are making me look so bad before these high grades, honours competitions, yadayadayada...

My academics are not as quite high when compared to those of yours: I got 7 A's and a B this term (A SOLID B-Great.) I'm not takinga any AP's, partly because they don't offer any here at my school (and also partly because I already took two AP's last summer).

For the SATs, I'm still waiting for my scores, and I am planning to do World History in Jan.

I've been slightly ignoring the EC's because of the heavy school work- although I'm still the president of our school's JSA and have been constantly volunteering at the library. I get really excited there's something out there that's about politics and international affairs (and I am more of a linguistic/ language arts person, since I LOVE debating and getting into heated discussions!!!)

Well, that's all about me. Please, PLEASE evaluate my current stats and feel free to comment/advice/whatever you want. Thanks alot.

Perilous road? I was somewhat amused by the apt phrasing of this thread. =p came across this thread yesterday accidentally when searching. Nice to meet you all fellow juniors!

Anyways, to introduce myself here: I am a current junior in an international school in Taiwan.

Grades/scores/whatnot: I have pure A's across the board, but I wouldn't really call our school "competitive" or anything. I haven't taken the SAT I yet (planning to in Jan) but have taken four SAT II's (800 WH, 800 Chinese, 790 IIC, Physics pending). I had taken two AP exams (5 in WH + Calc AB). I'm doing 2 at school this year and self studying 4 -- going for National Scholar (but I'm not sure whether I can get that standing going to a school in Taiwan).

EC: student council, mun (not this year tho -- scheduling conflict), clubs, AMC/AIME, volunteer work (200+ hrs), tutoring, track, swimming, pool+oceanfront lifeguarding (also part-time for volunteer), clubs, and random contests (usually in math).

Goals: Hoping to make NMSF and USAMO this year (not confident about either but very unconfident about the latter =p).

I love what I am doing currently and hope to keep this up for the rest of my high school life. Good luck guys as we head toward more and more and MORE testing!! =)

CRAP. . .RSI's deadline is February 1st, which means the January SAT's don't count for it!! I screwed up on my PSAT's and SAT's in October / December. Wow. . .I really screwed up big.

Sprinkles revival powder on thread

fewfdsagdsag--

don't worry. my only scores that i have to show are my gpa, my sat2s, and my psat.

and you could always take the january SATs and then mail it to them anyways (in case they extend the deadline like last year)

i'm totally screwed :(

ok my school has to totally suck instead of taking letter grades (A, B, C...etc) so instead we have numbers which makes it even more difficult. So my report card has like 94,93, 92,and because in my school it is IMPOSSIBLE to get anything higher than a 95. Im worried that it's going to make my transcript look bad. And my school has like two AP's. They are going to ruin me for college

hey class of 2007 hope everyone's having a great school year so far..

i took the sat as a sophmore and got a 2000...guess i shouldn't have wasted that chance. =( i'm retaking it in April, is that a good date? the CB ppl had to place the May SAT right after the AP week...don't wanna fry myself.

and i have a question concerning SATIIs: what's the chance that i'll get > 750 on phy./chem./bio. w/o ap courses? i got As in GT (gifted/talented, somewhere between honor/AP) courses and plan to study ultra-hard during summer...but oct. SATIIs are supposed to be the hardest so i'm a bit - ok very much- scared. so please pass on your knowledge thanks~

good luck juniors!

I got an 800 on bio after the honors course. And a 5 on the AP (again, without the course).

Im feeling pretty good right now...

226 PSAT- 72-76-78
800 Math II
4.00 GPA, 3 APs
11/513 rank

Hopefully I'll break 1500 on the first two parts of the real SATs...

HEY JUNIORS!

I REALLY missed this thread

How is everyone/everything going? good, bad?
Perhaps we should ignite this thread again since most of us are already facing new challenges like the college search, financial aids, SATs, APs, school grades, and possibly essays for some. So feel free to post what you've been upto in the past few months plus your next target.
