for JUNIORS who are ready to get onto THE PERILOUS ROAD

grades going downhill :(
I've never had so many bad grades on my report card/progress reports in my life :(

Ummmmmmm got through my second SAT sitting, 2240 w/ an 800 M (wooooot). Now gearing up for three months of sheer hell with 5 AP tests coming up (2 of them self-study) plus SAT IIs. Still maintaining my 4.0 uw and class rank of 1. I actually never thought I'd get this far, HP and Dartmouth are calling my name!

Perilous?

Junior and Senior year were the best times of my life. All the applying excitement, posting online, talking with other students who got accepted, DOING NOTHING FOR 6 MONTHS STRAIGHT. :)

What do you mean by DOING NOTHING FOR 6 MONTHS STRAIGHT??

I mean, c'mon, I am getting so stressed out with my grades and SAT and all the other stuff that once I even considered dropping school or suicide.

Don't say that you don't care about this, or feel so relaxed as if this is a vacation.

Oh yes, this is a race, or perhaps a small-scaled battle ground for what we'd have to face in the future. I am ready to fight.

Takeme2cali: I can understand your feelings, since my grades aren't so great either. Perhaps we'd just have to work harder, or find an alternative way to overcome this obstacle: "All roads lead to Rome."

Aw man I was gonna bump this thread up. You beat me to it, Jimmy. :P

I <3 everything about junior year.

A 4.0 this year is more than within reach. I got my SAT scores to a satisfactory range and won't be retaking until October. Taking the ACT in April (no stress) and June (stress!), and 7 AP's in May (FUN), in the middle of which I get my license!

I'm definitely loving my classes (bio, calc, chem, lang, french, even gym this year is good... US history is a different story, though), which makes the work easier to do. Also, it seems like we don't get any busywork but have tests more frequently, which I totally love.

Tons of competitions going on until May, and so far so good. I'm not stressing about college anymore since I realized that Yale (my dream for a while now) wouldn't even be my perfect fit, so even though I still want to go there, rejection wouldn't be the end of my world. The other schools I'm interested in are, well, more within reach. So there goes the stress of college admissions.

My closest friends are turning 17 this month and the next (meaning provisional licenses here in Jersey), with translates to a lot more chilling with them during the most stressful part of junior year.

Some advice... Just remember to keep a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. It may be hard, but try try try. Even if it means dropping a thing or two. If you aren't in the right state mentally then everything you attempt will fail.

P.S. Dolce and Gabbana might be the new Giorgio Armani and Prada might be the new Gucci :P

P.P.S. Screw that. My goal in life is still to have a week's worth of Giorgio Armani.

Junior year, no doubt, has been everything it is hyped up to be. Most of my teachers this year are easy, so I find myself working less than many of my friends and spending more time on ECs. I took SATII Biology and the SAT I and did well on both. I'm maintaining straight A's in school and enjoying my life.

I am an IB student. Enrollment for my senior year is next week. I can take 5 classes and fulfill my IB diploma requirements and graduate. What should I do, in terms of my college application resume, with my two open periods? Would it be better to add two more honors classes to have a full schedule or take one or two fewer classes and do volunteer work in my field of interest with the extra time? All my teachers advise a full schedule but my Dad thinks one fewer period and meaningful use of the extra time would be more interesting to the admissions committee.

This post is my first. Thanks for the help.

I think the idea of a free period would be a good idea (that is if you've something to do)
Use this free time and do something REALLY REALLY WORTHWHILE<< Something that can distinguish you from other applicants, perhaps a pursuit of your personal legend, or working outside the school to create a shelter for the homeless, or even research a project along with a local professor. But my advise is: if you use this time, you GOTTA use it WISELY, PRODUCTIVELY, and your purpose should be one of a kind that can really distinguish you.

lastly, congratulations for finishing school in such a short time. That'll be a positive record when applying to college.

Bumpppp

=D

Why do people say "bump" all the time?

To bring up the post

People say bump all the time, because they want to make the thread to be at the top of the page, so that they can get more responses

bump..........

I made 4 Bs at the start of the semester, but now am moving to 4 As. I don't know what that'll do to me . . .

So how many A's are you getting in total?

For me, it's around 7 I think .

So far I have all A's, but I think I have two B's on my progress report (we find out after Spring Break), I know I'll get them up, but I still don't like seeing them...even on a progress report. Even though I'm on Spring Break, I have so much homework to do...I haven't even started any of it, yet. I'm taking the SAT in May, but I haven't really started doing any serious prep for it,other than doing the "question of the day" every day. Eight more weeks (TAKS week doesn't count as a week) until school is out!! Counting down the days...

I was browsing through the Northwestern website, and I saw that their questions for next year (class of '07) were already up, it hit me hard that college admissions time for us is really coming.

Eight weeks? Ahhh you're so lucky. We still have three more months. June 20th is our last day.

For my core classes I'll have 6 As total. For all my classes, I'll have 12.

Wait, thesiren, are you referring to this? Cause that's 06-07... we're 07-08 (freshman year of college).
