<p>idamayer - If you're in the top 1% of your state then you're a semifinalist. If you're in the top 1% of the nation you're commended. If you're both then you're a semifinalist.</p>

<p>Well I'm a rising junior. Right now, the schools I have in mind are Wellesley College, UCSB, UCR, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, New York University, and San Diego State University.</p>
<p>Anybody know where I could get a college guidance counselor (other than our school counselors, because they...stink)?</p>

<p>I might end up applying to MIT, Caltech, Middlebury, Swarthmore, University of Washington in St. Louis, and these USC/George Washington programs. We'll see how the summer affects these choices.</p>
