for JUNIORS who are ready to get onto THE PERILOUS ROAD

I never said that!!! Anyways yay Michigan :)

I said since people from VA tend to have slightly politically right-leaning tendencies, and I'm politically very heavily left-leaning, we wouldn't want to talk politics to each other. Well that's what I implied anyway. :)

Oh... haha... I stay neutral... I'm new, so I'm not influenced by this tendency. haha

well if you need a guidance counsellor, I advise you to hire one privately (if you have and are willing to spend 10 to 30k that is)

I think that they can be really helpful at times when there's a tough decision to make, or when your life mysteriously rolls off the track.

I do agree that normal hs GCs are really not "that" useful, but I still need show "my respect and modesty" under their presence to acheive a good recommendation.

My GC is awesome. She nominated me for my summer program which I now have to go to because my first choice - NJ Governor's School - was cancelled by my stupid, stupid, stupid Governor. A$$hole.

As for a more comprehensive version of my list...

Definite: Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Michigan (rolling), MIT, Princeton, Rutgers (rolling), Yale (SCEA)

Considering: Brandeis, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, George Washington, NYU, Northwestern, Rochester, Tufts, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UNC-CH (EA), Virginia, Wake Forest

I'll end up with 10-15 schools.

O0o0o. I think I found a guidance counsellor---Anyone heard of ShareWorld Learning?

What program are you doing, theoneo? And if it makes you feel any better, more money in California goes to the prisons than to the schools. Thank you, Ahh-nold.

Do you mean what am I majoring in? Or which Gov School I applied to?

Summer program?

I need to:

Score 2100+ (700+ on each section) on the SAT in May

Score 700+ on my SAT IIs in June

Aim for 4's and 5's on my AP tests

Get a job

Take class at local CC during the summer and second semester of senior year

Sign forms to get my dance hours to transfer to my school as PE credit

Possibly begin college apps in the summertime or begin to think about it

Finalize college list

Start applying for a crazy amount of outside scholarships

chillaxin - Oh haha I still don't know.

lol. I empathize with you on #9, thesiren. Scholarship applications aren't much different from college applications though (read: they're insanely long and give me migraines).

My school encourages us to apply for scholarships starting second semester of senior year. They give us a huge packet and everything.

Heh. Heh.

Here's my college list:

Definite: University of Houston (rolling), USC(before Dec.10 deadline), Brown, Rice(Interim Decision), Northwestern, WashU

Considering: Barnard, Emory, Harvard, and Howard

Most likely will have only six schools on my list, because as of right now, I like them all, merit scholarships and financial aid will definitely be a huge factor if I get accepted into all of the schools.

My school encourages us to apply in the first semester of senior year, but I know that I will be busy with college apps and ECs, so I'm thinking of getting a head start..

Yeah my school also has neat little packets with local (about 30 for a graduating class of 100) and some state and national scholarships for seniors :).
Also: wow, the length and life of this thread is ridic.

Ok so I just found out that I got into NJ Scholars Program, a residential program at the Lawrenceville School. That'll be a good 5 weeks of my summer. I'm not sure what else to do at this point.

let's give it a little bump......

Is anyone else applying as a science major without any research or laboratory experience? I need some comfort here. :p

here. I didn't do any that kind of things.

lol. I'm sure there are a bunch of people like that, theoneo. I believe at least half of my school is. :]

I realized today that I'm a walking paradox. Just to up the contradiction factor a bit more, I decided that I'm going to be a pre-med bio major and a history (well, asian-american studies) minor. Yay.
