I received my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. However, I do not see my major anywhere with the letter. Is there a way I can check online for that, or is it safe to assume that I was admitted with the major I indicated on my application?

You don’t have to declare a major for a long time if you enroll, so don’t worry about it.

Lol turns out they did get my application. I was deferred! I found out via mail.

Ahh, thank you for the company! That was very helpful. I will send a letter of interest soon.

I am curious though, are you suggesting that the size will increase?

Does Fordham award scholarship money in the initial acceptance letter? Or do they send you another letter later on?

Junior and Mongo: My D just finished her first semester at RH. She has the NMSF scholarship and is in the honors program and loves it. She was telling us today that she doesn’t know how the people that select the students for the honors program did it, but they selected a great group of students. Really intelligent students who are interested in learning. They work together and help one another out and have a lot of fun with one another. She really likes Dr. Nasuti and the other professors. Please post any questions that you have about it and I can ask her.

JuniorMint, I honestly don’t know, but I read somewhere on Fordham’s Excelsior Campaign goals page that the school wanted to expand the honors program and semifinalist scholarships. It’s all part of Fr. McShane’s plan to propel Fordham upward in the USNWR rankings.

Someone please respond to rolando4’s question

Thanks Hen! I also like Dr. Nasuti; we’ve corresponded a bit by email, and he’s always been very helpful. Even if I don’t get invited in the Spring, I think I will definitely appeal to the board my first semester, because the program really interests me.

My son has been awarded a merit scholarship and would like to major in chemistry or physics/pre-med. Would the Honors program be too much to handle with science and pre-med classes?

Congratulations on the scholarship! My D said that there are a number of pre-med students in the honors program. The honors program students usually takes 3 honors classes and 2 regular classes for the first 4 semester. She just completed her first semester and said that the science majors took 2 of the 3 honors classes this past semester and will do the same next semester, so that the work load wouldn’t be too overwhelming and also so that they wouldn’t go over the number of credits that they are supposed to take first year. I’m not sure what happens sophomore year with the science majors.

Thank you, hen4763!

I also got a deferral letter yesterday from Fordham. The new date is April 1st, which could possibly mean less merit/financial aid? I was under the impression that the earlier you apply for FAFSA, the better your chances of getting a stronger financial aid package.

Oh, and in the deferral letter it asks for mid year grades, and an additional letter of recommendation or update of test scores/activities, etc.

Anyone here that has been accepted and is ROTC?

omzac and hen–honors and pre-med is definitely doable. “Normal” physics majors have to take all six freshman honors courses, but you can get the history seminars waived if you convince him your degree plan requires six non-honors courses in the first year. I was able to skip the histories and take chem (with lab), physics (with lab), and multivariate calculus each semester; double labs are no fun, but it’s possible. Premed/physics does mean he’ll be taking orgo as a junior, though, because unless you have a lot–a LOOOT–of AP credit, you do have to take all six sophomore honors seminars. (The other three honors/physics people in my year, who didn’t do chem or calc 3/4 as freshmen, are taking 21+ credits a semester this year just to keep up with core and major requirements. Whether your scheduling fits as well as you’d like depends on high school preparation and on good planning.)

could someone please tell me how to access the portal so I can check my application decision?

Thanks, anglegrinderman!!

Do the NMF students get priority registration? Do the honors? Thanks.

I posted this in the other thread, but i was wondering - has anyone else not received a decision yet? My Fordham page still says everything is in and I received a confirmation e-mail in early November. I’m in PA, so I submitted during the Sandy extension - will this just delay my decision?
