Forgot to submit Fafsa by March, 2nd

Hi,
Well I'm a current student in UCI, and I couldn't submit my fafsa by March 2nd, I submitted it today March 14th. I called the financial aid office and they told me this could jeopardize the grant from the University, which is like 60% of all the aid I receive, I am an independent student, I have no job or other source of income, if I would not receive the grant from the university I don't think there is a way I could pay my tuition, rent, etc. Does anybody know about a situation like this? How much can the fact that I didn't apply on time for financial aid affect my award? Sorry for my English, any help or comment is appreciated, thank you

I’m not really sure but on their website they say failure to submit by March 2nd takes you out of the running for Priority Fin Aid. Which only affects grants and work study. So basically your app is behind everyone who submitted by March 2nd. However if there is grant money left over it is still possible for you to receive one. But you will always be able to get loans…

Well that’s certainly a very unfortunate situation to be in…you will definitely not get a CalGrant, even if you’ve received one before. You will also not get any grants from UCI, unless they have any money leftover after they take care of finances for all the students who did do the FAFSA on time. That’s pretty unlikely. UCI’s FA office is pretty stingy IMO. You might not even be offered loans. I’d look into private loans for now…that or apply for a massive amount of scholarships :/
