hey pirate.. is it true that, when applying for a UC school, your chances of getting in are cut short if you're a non cali resident? based on my stats, which cali schools do you think is worth applying to? forgive me for being so hard- headed.. it's just that ive been aspiring to go to a UC school since (i cant even remember).. you seem like you know alot about UC's that's why i need to hear your opinion.. thanks so much.

Pirate- Yeah, I really wasn't questioning you or your credentials, although it came off that way. I was just surprised that so many people didn't ask. Seems like deciphering the validity of one's source is kind of a big deal, and I was just wondering why no one seemed to even wonder. Too many people take some of the advice here as like, the word of God, without considering that it's just the internet and people aren't always right 100% of the time.

That said, I agree with everything else you've said.

knix,

Although I wouldn't consider Cal and UCLA as being of widely varying difficulty, I'd say you have a good shot at both.

Cal/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safety

Just write good essays, and do an honors program if you school has one.

BTW...UC apps don't have letters of rec, so don't worry about it.

hey UCLAri.. you think UCLA is a match considering my stats? WHY DID YOU SAY SO? (trust me, im happy as hell right now) and UCSD a safe school?.. i hope so. um.. do you go to UCLA, as stated by your name? and um, im in a community college.. and i dont think community colleges offer honors program.. do they?.. when you said UCLA's a match for me, were you aware that im not a cali resident?.. hehe just making sure. thanks

Listen to Ari, he's absolutely correct.

Your CC should definitely have an honors program, though being out-of-state, you won't get a transfer alliance. You are a match even with your out-state residency.
If in-state, you would be a shoe-in, unless you completely screwed up your essay. Do you know the IGETC? Do it, you will not even be considered without it.

Unless you use h.s. transcripts of course. But for a realistic chance, do it anyway.

sadly, i have no freakin idea what the IGETC is.. please orient me. and by the way, in what way is the honors program going to help?.. i dont know of any here in my CC.. although i am a member of the highest honor society for two year colleges.. the phi theta kappa.. does that count as an honors program? im such an idiot.. im sorry.

im just so happy right now knowing that UCLA is a match for my stats.. hope its all true.. fingers crossed

Intersegmental general education transfer curriculum. 2 eng, 1 math, 3 soc. sci, 1 bio sci, 1 phys. sci, 1 foreign language, 2 arts, and I think 3 or 4 humanities. ptk is not honors program, but you can list it as an activity.

It's all up to you. Just don't count your chickens before they are hatched. Focus on your work first. All IGETC classes must be transferrable to count. Consult ASSIST.edu to check which ones are.

well then what is an honors program?.. which one is more forgiving towards OUT OF STATE transfer students: Berkeley or LA?..

Honors classes are more rigorous, it shows dedication to excellence.

No UC campus I would say is "forgiving" to out-of-staters. Berk and OOCLA are just about the same. Berk might be a little tougher, just slightly. But LA receives more apps.

you know what mr. pirate, i think im unintentionally follwing the IGETC.. courses i have taken are as follows:
math course- statistics
physical sci- intro to evolution
bio sci- life sciences
humanities- philosophy, western humanities, visual arts and logic
english- composition I and II, speech
soc sci- psychololgy, sociology and political science
foreign lang- spanish
*i did not include my electives in the list..
WHAT DO YOU THINK MR. PIRATE?

Consult ASSIST.edu. And Pirate or Capt. is just fine. Just kidding, call me Erik.

Gotta go. Keep it real.

ok erik the pirate (what?).. anyways, do you mind if i asked what school you go to?

samo college
