Freshman Dorms at Lawrenceville + Schedule

I have a few questions about the Freshman Dorms at Lawrenceville (I’ve already read stuff online and have some basic information but I just wanted to get an extended opinion from you guys)

I see that the Freshmen have their own dining hall as well as their own dorms. Does dorm spirit really run high when you’re a freshman or does it not really occur until the next year when you are sorted into the Crescent dorms?
Also, are roommates common among the Freshman dorms or are they all singles?

As for the schedule question I was wondering if any of you guys could outline a basic schedule of what it was like in a day as a freshman at Lawrenceville?

Thanks everyone! :slight_smile:

^ Bump :wink:

Dorm spirit is still alive while you’re in your freshman dorm, however it’s more spirited when you get put into the Crescent/Circle dorms. That’s because when your in the Crescent dorms, you participate in House Olympics and it just makes you more connected to your dorm.

Singles are common for freshman. There might be one or two doubles

I can’t really answer the schedule question because I don’t go there yet, but I do know that Wednesdays and Saturdays are half-days.

@chipotlegirl123 Do you know if there are any cool activities for the freshmen houses?

Ah I hope I get a double! I love rooming with people!

And no worries, I found the schedule in the student handbook.

Thank you for responding :slight_smile:

I’m pretty sure freshmen hang out in the Bowl a lot, which brings them together and sometimes the dorms have feeds . There might be more activities they get to do too like dances

@chipotlegirl123

Yeah, I heard about that too! I’m so excited to hang out there! Weren’t they in the process of renovating it?

@missinghome21 are you going to be a freshman at lawrenceville too?

I am a current freshman, I live in boys lower (Raymond). I can’t really tell you about girls lower dorm spirit, but it’s pretty high in our house. Since we all live in such close proximity to each other, comradery between all of us is quite tight, and our house prides that as being one of its best qualities. As for activities, every Saturday there is a feed as well as an optional activity for the evening. A common favorite is the all school skate, where everyone is invited onto the hockey rink to ice skate with your friends. There are also trips to other states, musical events, Museum trips, and plenty more. As a side note, if you are an incoming freshman, you will have a completely new bowl - which is basically the social hangout point for frosh boys and girls (it’s a plot of oval green land central to the boy’s and girl’s houses). The class of '21 unfortunately has not gotten to experience it yet, due to its renovation - bummer.

How close do you get with your new classmates during the first months of school?

@Unkempt-Couth

I have more genuine, and close friends here than I did at my public school. This is obviously not everyone’s case, but the people here are friendly and the connections are genuine. If you are worried about encountering a huge wave of new people, don’t be. All the freshman will be experiencing the same thing as you will @chipotlegirl123

Didn’t really answer your question about the “first few months of school”, but just as any relationship between people, it occurs gradually and you become more comfortable with your classmates as the year progresses. In the first few months for me, I hadn’t met the entirety of my immediate friend group yet. You will meet everyone in your class by the end of fall term, and start recognizing who you want to hang out with midway through winter term. I don’t mean to say the lville is 'Cliquey ', because it isn’t - just how my experience progressed through my time here

@Unkempt-Couth Thank you so much!

@Unkempt-Couth Ah yay! I’ve finally found someone who is attending Lville currently! I was wondering about the dorm rooms, are they very small?

And how is the community there? Is it hard to find your group?

Oh and what are some of those optional activities you’ve mentioned?

Thank you for answering some questions for me and @chipotlegirl123

Dorms are moderately sized, finding your friend group is like at any other school, and if you scroll up in this thread you’ll find one of my older responses which include some of the weekend activities.

@missinghome21

@Unkempt-Couth Thank you for your help! Do you know when they send out dorm assignments?

There are only two freshman dorms: Boys Lower and Girls Lower. Rooms are picked on the day of arrival via a lottery.

@sgopal2 What do you mean by lottery? Do we basically pick our rooms randomly?

Yes the rooms are picked at random. Most of the rooms are singles. But they also have some doubles. You’ll hear more over the summer from the housemasters.
