Freshman Questions and Suggestions

Hello all,
I'm a Pre-med student at Warren college and have some questions:

1) Is it easy to change from Human Bio to General Bio?

2) I have an AP Calculus BC score of 5, taken MV Calc with an A and Statistics with an A (both at my community college). To apply to UCSD Med School, do i have to take any more math?

3) I have AP Scores in Physics Mechanics of 4 and E/M of 4. How many Physics classes will i need to take to apply and what are they?

4) Which sicence classes should I take for first year (I did not take AP Bio): BILD1, BILD2, BILD3 and Phsyics. Are these 3 classes are offered every quarter? (Other than OChem since I will be taking that next summer)

6) Which TAs and professors are the best for both A & B writting classes?

For 2&3, I gave you a chart to show you what credits are satisfied with your AP classes. Everything premed is extensively covered online so it’s pretty easy to find information. Most school advisors in almost all the departments can help you with that too.

1) Talk to an advisor. Changing majors within departments is usually easy, but the biology department is hugely impacted from what I know so I have no idea what goes on there.

4) Google UCSD Schedule of Classes. Look up the recommended 4 year plan for your desired major on the department’s website.

6) [Rate My Professors | Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com](http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/)

It looks like Holly Bauer is the only professor teaching WCWP 10A. Every other section will be run by a graduate student and it won’t show you which one is teaching which section so it’s pretty much a random toss up. If you can’t get it with Bauer I would just pick the section that fits your schedule the best.

I’ll be an RA for Warren next year by the way so maybe you’ll be my resident! That would be cool.

1) You can switch between majors in the biology department as many times as you wish (or, as it says on their site, every 14 days). If you’re currently a human bio major, switching to genbio should be as easy as a click of a button.

2) https://meded.ucsd.edu/asa/admissions/application_process/step_by_step/

3) Look at the AP chart UCSD2013 posted. Check how many quarters you skip out of. Check what the UCSD med school admissions page (which I posted above) says.

[or, if you didn’t read the site above: AP credit with a score of 4 or 5 can be used to satisfy some of the requirements: The full year of Math. One semester of Physics (meaning you would need to complete ONE semester or TWO quarters to complete the requirements). You should just contact your academic adviser to make sure.]

4) For my freshman year I just did the physics sequence and the chem sequence. My roommate completed the genchem, genbio, and genphysics sequence in her first year (so her schedule was the same the whole year: chem bio physics writing). I started physics in winter and that left me with a lot less choices in profs. I don’t think that problem appears with bio since most people take the bio series out of sequence anyway.
