I just have a quick question- I'm looking at the exploration communities, and the one that I'm interested in say it is a "Cirriculum Connected Community". What exactly does that mean? I'm sorry if that is a really dumb question, I'm just curious.

it just means that the people on your floor will take a class together. this class will usually be offered in two sections.

most likely, this is Writing the Essay. my floor did that this year, and i have to say, it has made us a lot closer.

What are the Exploration programs like in Goddard Hall? Anyone in the Writing New York program? I'm also considering Hayden.

^I'm looking into Goddard, too. I'm looking at the "All the World's A Stage" program, though...

nancyfbi: writing new york is a floor in goddard. most people i know on the floor like it. they have a great writing instructor (for Writing the Essay), whose name is Kathy Graber.

bandnerd06: that's my floor right now and i really, really enjoy it. i happen to know the RA for next year, so feel free to ask me any questions about the floor.

I'm actually leaning toward Hayden Hall, for the triple. How are the rooms there? I'm also forced to consider Rubin, also for the triple. Which hall has the bigger dorms?

I think Rubin's triples are bigger, but they're both big enough for three people. The thing about low-cost housing is that there's only one closet for three people, and the bathroom is pretty small too.

Oh, but Rubin has no A/C. People don't think this matters a lot because it's only really hot about two weeks of the school year.

However, they both have their own dining halls and are about the same distance from the main academic buildings. Both have large dorm communities (not necessarily close though).

my friend who was in Rubin last year said that the triples were small......

the haydn triples were pretty large. it was also in a suite. it had its own bathroom, as did the other room in the suite.

So would anyone happen to know which is the "studious" dorm where perhaps the premeds are at this year?

Since Hayden is close to the square, would that be too noisy? Which is the party hall? Hayden or Rubin? I'm not much of a party person.

aww. I definitely remember being in your shoes last year, so I feel some what obligated to respond. Rubin hall is known to be the most social residence halls of all the FYRE residencies (not in a 'party' kind of way, but in a friendly way). Most pple party at third north, or we just go out (it's New York, there's really not much of a need to stay in your room all day). As a current resident of Rubin hall, as well as the President of the hall council, I will admit that my response to this thread is very bias, but I've had a wonderful residing here. I'm staying in a low-cost triple and, though it IS small, it isn't TINY like the rooms at Brittany. As far as the regular triples, there's more than enough space to keep one happy. Through out the past years, Rubin has always been one of the most spirited FYRE halls. I have many friends at Hayden, Weinstein (I'd probably recommed this hall next, even though it IS Rubin's rival hall), and Brittany, and most are always hanging out at Rubin. There's a nice study lounge on the second floor, as well as a game room and a ping pong table. To make the most of your stay in any residence hall, definitely run for a hall council position. From the moment campaigning starts, I guarantee you'll start your first year at NYU off with a blast. Oh, and the no a/c is HONESTLY no big deal (most buy a fan for the first couple weeks). Seriously, you'll be in and out trying to grasp everything about college those first couple weeks you won't even realize your room doesn't have a/c half the time.

im considering hayden since its a little closer to the main part of nyu. im going to do some scouting when i visit nyc this winter break to get a good idea of how far each dorm is. i can deal without a dining hall as long as another dorm with a dining hall is relatively close by.

I'm debating between Brittany or Rubin; mostly because of money... does anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks :-)

I am confused as to the difference between a “room” and a “suite”. plus i really wanted one of those room configurations where i get my own room but share a bathroom with another single. are there room configurations like this? if so, are there any in Hayden?
