The numbers for Pace seemed a bit high from what my S had mentioned. I asked S tonight and he said there were 29 freshmen (14 boys and 15 girls) and several transfers. So I think the numbers posted here are also including the transfer students?

Why don’t we update this officially and migrate to class size if 2013 for next group to use?

University of Michigan’s MT freshman class this year is 10 women, 11 men.

Ball Stare this year is 20, 12 women and 8 men

Roosevelt/CCPA MT Voice Emphasis 27, MT Dance Emphasis 17

Syracuse MT class of 2017 is 20 (12 women, 8 men).

James Madison freshman fall of 2013 – 11 (5 women, 6 men)

There seems to be more girls accepted than boys at most of the schools that have been mentioned. Why is that? Most shows have more male roles than female roles so I don’t understand why a program wouldn’t get at least the same number. Any ideas?

There aren’t as many males that come out, in general. The schools try to get an even number, though. It’s a challenge.

Otterbein MT is 4 guys, 5 girls. Usually it’s only 4 girls; maybe they brought in an extra girl to compensate for the smaller acting class this year (2 M/2 F). And GSOMTMom is so right–far more girls at every audition we attended last year. Not every school tries for even numbers, but it does seem that most do.

The numbers listed are not the number of students accepted (except in the case of schools that only accept the number of students they want to attend, and then go to a waitlist if the first students accepted choose not to attend).

The numbers listed are the number of students who matriculated in the freshman class. Most schools accept more students than they intend will enroll, and make choices on how many to admit depending upon statistics of “yield” in previous years… example: School “A” wants a freshman class of 18 (9 men/ 9 women). Statistically 50% of those they admit choose to attend (same yield % for both men and women). So, they admit 36 (18 men/ 18 women) to try to yield a class of 18.

In terms of why some programs have more women than men… it may be that the school does not worry about gender balance in admissions… more women audition than men, and the school admits more women than men. It could be that although the school accepted an even number of women and men more of the men chose to go to another school to which they were admitted.

Just curious…how can a department put on shows with 2M and 2F ?
I didn’t see the post above…so they accept more than 4 kids, but only 4 elected to go?
