FSU Film School - 2016

Good luck, will keep you posted if my son hears anything, please do the same.

Will do…

Saw one acceptance to FSU MPA retweeted by FSU Admission today! Hopefully that means you will all hear soon! Fingers crossed for good news all around!

Oh wow, thanks for letting us know. I found Lexie’s tweet, great news for her!

I just came on here to say the same thing. Congrats to her!

Yes… congrats to Lexie. She was in my daughter’s group for interviews.

My daughter just got into UMiami for Film, but I suspect that she will rank it below UTexas among the other admits… and below FSU MPA and USC SCA if those become admissions too. Even with a scholarship, UMiami is certainly a lot more expensive though. Yikes! lol So, I am sort of glad it is down on her list. The silence from FSU MPA and even from others is a little unnerving. I thought that they would not announce any decisions until all interviews were concluded. But now that they did, you have to suspect that they did not just admit one over the weekend. So who are the other lucky admits I wonder…?

They are still interviewing so it can’t be that many announced yet. Congrats on the UMiami acceptance, I was recently wishing my son had applied there as well. Is UMiami more than USC tuition?

Thanks. UMiami lists its total cost of attendance as $66K/yr. USC is $69K/yr. Of course, those are the raw #s without applying any scholarships or FA, if applicable. Pricey.

Wow! OK now I’m glad he didn’t apply there, lol.

Yes… FSU is much more reasonable, even for OOS applicants. But my daughter will only commit there with an MPA admission.

We have looked online through various social media platforms but cannot find any reference to another admit… other than Lexie. Has anyone heard of others?

Someone on filmschool.org wrote: I interviewed on 2/24 for the Production track. Haven’t heard back so far – wondering if anyone else has. I’ve seen multiple people say they’ve received their acceptances online, one was a Screenwriting MFA and another was a BFA. I’m dying over here.

I can’t get this site to verify my account so I can’t respond to him.

@WWWard --have not heard of any others. The only Freshman admit we know who interviewed has not heard anything, nor has the one transfer I know.

@cruzanlady Is the transfer applicant that you know a current FSU student or from another school? The current film student that we know has told my son that most transfer students typically come from within FSU. In her class, she knows only one transfer student who came from another university.

My son’s original plan was to stay at home for a year, finish up his AA degree at the local community college, and reapply as an outside transfer next year. But, when our acquaintance told him that most transfers are usually already FSU students, that sold him on going straight to FSU. At the very least, that will give him the chance to volunteer on their film sets for a year.

We are actually heading to FSU this Friday. They are having a series of “Preview” events for newly accepted students. He’ll get to tour the dorms, meet with advisors, ask questions, etc… Each department, including the film school, is supposed to have an open house. I’m going to encourage my son to pop in there and introduce himself. Never too early to make yourself known and prove how eager you are to be a part of the program.

Interesting… we are eager to learn who was also admitted freshman BFA. Do you recall who the other BFA was (other than Lexie)? or where you saw it posted? or was that on filmschool.org?

If you are talking to me @WWWard I only know from what I saw on filmschool.org. I wish I could ask him but the site won’t let me.

@loribale Yes… I saw it now. You were quoting him. So the one BFA he mentions could be the same one we already know about.

Oh well. The wait and uncertainty continues… angst

@jrmutley I’m glad your son has decided to go to FSU and volunteer, then reapply…most likely my son’s plan as well if he doesn’t get the call by April 1st. Has your son found a roommate yet? My son might need one and it could be fun to have two aspiring filmmakers together.

@loribale His decision has been relatively recent. Technically, he wasn’t going to decide until after this Friday’s “Preview” event at FSU. But, I can see the writing on the wall.

Since it has been a recent decision, he hasn’t looked into roommates or made any specific plans yet. Having said that, I don’t think he would be too keen on the idea of his dad finding him a roommate on some internet message board. :)) I’ve probably been too involved in this process as it is. Thanks for the offer, though.
