FSU Film School - 2016

I’ve been following this thread for some time now but have yet to comment on it. I am a HS senior applying for Film Production at FSU MPA. I had my interview on March 3rd and am awaiting a decision. I have also gotten into USC and Chapman and their film schools, but I am hoping for FSU because of cost and curriculum. I really hope we all find out something in the next few days.

Big week ahead!!! Good luck everyone, at least you guys have good back ups!

@CJT1231 Congrats on your admissions / options. Unless you have heard of others elsewhere posting online, the consensus is that only two have officially been notified of offers. But that also seems unlikely at this late date. I presume that everyone will be updated over the next week though. Good Luck…

Thank you! I truly can’t afford USC or Chapman (even with their highest merit scholarship), so I hope I hear good news from FSU. I do find it odd that two were admitted early, although I do remember toward the end of my interview them asking me whether or not I needed to know by a certain date. It is possible that those two requested they know earlier for scholarship reasons. Last year, the notifications didn’t roll out until the last week of March from my understanding.

@CJT1231 You’re welcome. Well, you may want to at least wait and compare FA offers, if those will be forthcoming.

That is interesting. I guess that could explain the early admits and later separation of time. I know that my daughter said they (the current MPA students) asked them what other schools they were considering. Maybe they track that info and know who needs to commit by when.

Good Luck

I find the silence to be sort of strange. Who knows… maybe all 20 know, but they are just keeping it to themselves. Or maybe FSU MPA is really struggling deciding and/or gaining commits. Either way… the clock is ticking…

We haven’t heard anything, the anxiety continues.

Indeed. Meanwhile most schools are done announcing. The last one that we know of is Stanford in 3 days. Kids are committing to housing, reviewing financial aid offerings, etc. I know that kids technically have until May 1 to commit… but most do it much sooner, and MPA needs to decide too soon.

I got my call today! I’m in! I can answer any questions about myself or the little knowledge I know about the process!

@CJT1231 Congrats! Where are you from and program… production or animation? and when did you interview? (Edit – March 3rd. I remember now)

Well that at least makes three. But I wonder how many of the three have or will then commit to attend…

I’m from a small town in Kansas and on the production track!

@CJT1231 Well, you are not in… ______ anymore. Well, you know the rest. Or you soon will not be there anymore.

So, do you think that you will be committing to FSU MPA and turning down USC SCA and Chapman then…?

congrats, again… it sounded like this is the one you were waiting for…

I know one other admit but I believe they are a current FSU student “transfer.” Congrats to you @CJT1231 ! Its surprising to me how spread out the admissions seem to be…interesting. But I agree @WWWard I would think they would want to announce pretty soon to stay competitive with the other top programs. Still crossing fingers and toes for you guys.

Haha, I expect to hear that joke more often regardless of where I go.

If I could go anywhere for free, I might still pick FSU. I am in the honors program and have some other oppurtunities there, and I just really love the staff and students. It is very very welcoming. The film school is going to move up a few spaces on all of the lists thanks to Barry Jenkins and some other recent alumni success. Small class sizes, close groups, and intensive expirience are also awesome. The fact that it is cheaper just seals the deal. I won’t commit until all financial aid (and NYU decision) is on the table.

@CJT1231 understood. all makes sense…

Congrats @CJT1231 !! So I assume they called you vs e-mailed. What was the time frame they gave you to make a decision?

@CJT1231 Unfortunately, from what I hear about NYU, they are one of the stingiest of the private universities in terms of aid. So, unless they award you with a major scholarship to go with an admission, it will likely be even more expensive than USC. But good luck…

& at least you now have this one safely secured for yourself.

They called and then sent me an email immediately afterwards. I believe I have to decide by mid-April.

Thanks for the info!

The FSU MPA website says… “Final notifications will go out starting mid-March and will continue through April 1st of 2017”. So, everyone should know one way of the other by the end of Saturday.
