FTE: Foundation for Teaching Economics Program

accepted to the UCLA program! anyone have any prior experience? how selective is it?

Cornell: Accepted!

the group’s name is “EFL 2011 - Cornell” join!

couldn’t find it!

accepted to UCLA… still not sure if I’m going. I’m also a WLC alumni and so I’m seriously considering this program. Only problem is that it’s going to cost about $1000 when it’s all said and done. I’m very intrigued with the program and I LOVE Los Angeles.

Also, I checked out the thread from last year and there were a few CC kids that were waitlisted/rejected last year so I guess this is more selective than I thought.

Accepted to UCLA, it was my one and only choice so I’m pretty happy :D.

Cornell IN! :)

How prestigious/selective is this thing anyhow?

waitlisted at Cornell… hopefully I will still be admitted, they are supposed to let us know on or before april 25th. trying to stay positive! congrats to those accepted!

All the way from Idaho and waitlisted at Cornell - Geez! I thought only the local tri-state was heading to Cornell.

Same-I assumed that Cornell would be all East Coast’ers but I’m glad it isn’t! I don’t know how selective it is, but I heard that like, groups are compromised of only 30-50 people so I’d say fairly selective.

BCB: Nothing will ever compare to WLC, but this sounds like a great program and if you can afford it, I would go. What’s the worst that could happen?

Were anyone of you guys who were wait-listed at Cornell offered a position at Kansas? I was wait-listed at Cornell and was offered a placement at Kansas and I took it considering that when I talked to them, they said there were a huge number of people on wait-list for Cornell. Is anyone else from here going to the Kansas program?

Wow! I know Cornell was one of the more prestigious schools on the list - but frankly I only listed it because it was the closest school to home, as are a couple other people i saw around here (One in Queens, another upstate I think) and I had alternatives I was fine with. Kind of surprised to hear there is such a prominent waiting list

But congrats on getting in nonetheless!

EDIT: On the website, Kansas is the ONLY one still open. All other ones are full. Which means, like Lebron said - that’s gonna be filled with anyone on the waitlists for UC, Cornell, etc.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the acceptance rate for this is around 30%? I’m not positive, and it could be false.

It may be higher or lower depending on which campus it is at. I can’t imagine Kansas having as many applicants as say, UCLA or Cornell.

Two other people I know applied and got into UW, so it’s 3/3 from people that I know.

For the waitlisted @ Cornell:

I got in at cornell but I’m not sure if I’m going, so you guys might have a chance.

To be honest, I’m not sure if it’s worth it to go. Because the application process wasn’t very comprehensive… they asked you to self-report your GPA and didn’t ask for an official transcript.

I think I got in because I submitted my app early (mid-january). I think they select on a first-come first-serve basis. Which makes me REALLY wonder about whether or not this program is prestigious.

Anyone feel like telling me why I should bother paying 500$+travel expense for just one week?

I submitted mine 2 or 3 days before it was due and still got into UCLA… I’m not going to try to convince you that you need to go since there’s probably 50 kids on the wait list who want to go and will gladly take your spot. And personally, I like that they don’t require transcripts. It just shows how much more weight they put on the essay and how they figure out WHO you are instead of what your numbers are.
If I can scrounge up the money, I’ll go. But $750-$800 is a lot of money, so I’m just going to have to wait and see how the cards play out.
The deciding factor on this for me was the fact that they are partnered with HOBY, which must mean they are outstanding :)

I was offered Kansas as well, however I am doing Girls State that same week. I still have hope for Cornell! We will see what happens. I would like to do all my campus tours the next week considering they are all east coast, so Cornell is an ideal spot.

Accepted to Vanderbilt! I’m excited!

@noloserhere… I’m not sure about prestige but the program does not work on a first come first serve basis. I got accepted to the Cornell campus and I submitted my application an hour before the deadline…

Did anyone get accepted off the waitlist at any location?
